it is raining flecks of ice. in about two hours, they will
begin to freeze on contact, and probably already are in
'untreated' areas.

i have been hearing sirens off in the distance, all day --
there's a highway nearby; i was lucky enough to get
permission to work from home. predictions were for a
freeze-over, so clean the car up today or i'm fucked. i took
a break in the early afternoon to de-snow my car, the
stairs, the walkway.

after all that, i go for a drive. conditions are quite
tough, but i manage, despite smoking a cigarette in
diachronic tandem. a good snow driving trick is to wait for
a clear moment and mash the gas to see how much the tiers
slip. after a couple such test-toasts at strategic
locations, i was going grandma through every corner due to
risk of a spin-out.

that was 3:30. now, it is 6:30, and, like i said, the
temperature will drop in two hours, and everything will
freeze da fuck over. i learn this after checking the
weather, as work is winding down. there is worse news:
thursday drops into temperatures better registered on the
kelvin scale. it will freeze tonight, crest above freezing
for about five glorious hours tomorrow, and then promptly go
kelvin-scale until sunday. i used an online javascripts, it
will be -6C outright and -18C with windchill. not cool,
windchill

i am immediately all "aaaaaugh commuting is gonna suuuuuck
all week" and it probably will. then i am also "shit,
everything not shoveled right now is going to be fucked for
days" and i'm out doing a second round of shoveling. the
other tenants cleared a bit around the garbage shed but i
need to clear some pathways now because my landlady is old
and wobbly

i am tired. i dread the commute tomorrow. i still have a
bunch of crap to do to prepare for work tomorrow. i need a
shower. this week will be stinging cold

how is ur weather xlt

one of the other tenants is out there now, clearing more
sludge. i rather like it that we've all kind of just been
doing shifts without even having to coordinate with each
other

weather here is steady drizzle, overcast, standard manc in
dec stuff. not had a snowy day yet this winter. -18C is
coooold man, we only get really subzero stuff in jan / feb
though it can snow once in awhile even in march n april

it's always a special occasion when it registers a natural
zero on the fahrenheit scale. i had a thermometer dongle --
heck, i think i still have it -- clipped on to my jacket,
in, like fifth grade, when i was ten. and i looked at it and
we're at like -5 fahrenheit, or -20C according to
javascrips

the first aspect is the wind blasting cold, sucking the life
out of your skin. there are an intricate unfolding responses
to this: some people go up to a ski mask, almost, with
various accessories. i just moisturize, use balm on my
hands, and, shit, i still haven't gotten another umbrella,
but, yeah, learning to deflect the wind via various tactics

the cold is ok, though. not good, but, whatever. what really
stresses me out is the ice. having a lot of walking to do
between train stops and work and home, i'm moving like the
sony asimo robot because i have to walk to work to get to
work and i need both my hands to program

as hearsay has it, the innut have over a hundred words for
snow -- the different varieties; conditions.

typically, we get a major snowstorm, and whatever doesn't
get cleared out ices over.

this, however, is a bit more. it is, as i mentioned, raining
flecks of ice, that are freezing on contact. usually, you
get a bit of melt and smooth, slippery ice... but i rubbed
my hand over the step and it felt like a fractal
constellation. a 3D structure of little bits of ice
gradually building up pyramids on surface that was not
actually below freezing, yet.

it's actually quite unusual. can't remember the buildup has
been quite this structural

what is innut for this-will-be-a-bastard-to-walk-on-tomorrow

Strangely it’s a beautiful sunny day here, no wind.

it dumped more snow overnight, but thankfully, it was warm
enough for long enough that most of it melted back off and i
don't have to clear the car off again. however, anything not
cleared out yesterday is now permafrost. my arms are still
sore, but that was definitely the right move

walk home was slow, because of walking on ice. however, it
wasn't bad, because it's neither windy nor brutally cold

both of those are forecast for tomorrow, and the walk will
probably suck a lot

(intuit quacken)
