mr. burke gets funky

mr. burke was an english teacher that i actually only ever
met once, while interviewing for the school i eventually
went to. he had a very articulated hmmmm. word has it, if he
wrote "hm" with just one m, you were in for some bad news.
if it was "hmm" you merely did alright. but if there were
lots of mm's -- hmmmmmm! -- you did something right. he also
liked to play the tin whistle, and talk about playing the
tin whistle

some classmates were over at my place and i was about a year
or two into making music and i just record one guy saying
stupid shit as mr. burke and immediately started making it
into a track

guy actually died a couple months ago, but in this, his
voice hadn't even changed, yet. weirdola

feels weird listening to my super-old shit. i feel like i
had a natural sense of how a song should be structured,
tension and release, whatever, but rhythm and groove was
something that took many years

in college, shortly after i first tried weed, i had a song
in my head and it was driving me batshit because i couldn't
get the feel right. then i was all "1/16 T" hey what's what
and turns out it was what i wanted, triplets, i had a
triplet riddim in my hed but i didn't yet know what da fuk
they were. this was two or three years after the burke
track

dragon's den

i'm hijacking ur theredz sry. this last one is better sleeps

I have had long periods of it too. I never imagine knives
though and eventually started to be in control of it by
guiding myself to sleep.

statement is completely inaccurate; "mr. burke gets funky"
was made in acid 2.0 and FL3

if you look at your hand there are clear lines and sections,
what if you took a bandsaw and sliced off the inner three
finger section? then the next one, covering the index
finger?

i don't really understand why, but it's been a recurring
idea in my head since elementary school

I snapped awake last night at 4am after a hyper realistic
dream where we were coming back from somewhere and a
basketball I was carrying bounced down the basement stairs
and I followed it down and it rolled down a passageway and I
just KNEW there were Dead Things waiting in there.

I have a lot of dreams that start out innocent then out of
nowhere there's a Ghost or other Dead Things.

Then there are the 100% terrifying ones. Do you guys ever
have dreams about a huge house like a 3d maze that's partly
open to the outside, there are plank bridges set across open
spaces, and you're trying to avoid the Haunted parts but
they find you anyways?

putting myself in a waking liminal state here

i do regularly have dreams with house layouts. i'm in the
place i live or somewhere i used do and i find a closet door
and it's a tunnel to the neighbor's house or another dream
entirely

i remember once somehow i wound up where i was living in
2012 through a tunnel. i apologize to the homeowner for
showing up through a dream tunnel (i think) after exploring
the house, which now has a completely different layout. i go
outside and instead of houses it's just wide-open green
fields. in retrospect, i'm not sure why my brain was so sure
it was the same house. likely answer is it just generated
the house based on models and textures from the 2012 house

then i wander over across the street and down a house and
it's the place i lived in 2010. it was a duplex and i only
got to see the inside of the other half once, so of course i
go in and have a look. the layout, again, did not quite
match reality

it's not like every night or anything, but i get at least a
couple a year, and sometimes large batches of them during
certain stretches

it means something, probably.

late 00's i went through a stretch where i was having
repeated, constant dreams about large concrete structures.
like, i'm in a warehouse, massive, like i'm an ant. the
floor is concrete, but not flat -- there are slopes and
hills and everything.

or, i'm wandering in between dream segments. i'm outdoors,
but the ground is all concrete. there are abstract shapes
made of concrete planted regularly, spheres and such. then i
get to a mall

or, i'm in the freezing ocean and there is a giant spire of
ice rising out of the ocean. i'm floating towards it. i
realize there are lots of other people floating towards it
to. when they reach it, they get absorbed into the ice. i
realize the spire is gradually growing higher and the
absorbed frozen people are all on a very slow ice elevator
to the heavens. when i get to the spire, i am not afraid. i
calmly just let it happen... but then i freak out. sort of
like you'd freak out during an episode of sleep paralysis,
that sort of panic and rush to squirm and escape. i fall
back into the ocean. i try again to merge with the spire,
but i cannot. so i swim to shore. it's a rocky, but green
ocean landscape, and there are ruined old bits of ancient
greek architecture; pillars and columns and such

a couple months ago i had this dream where my dad committed
suicide by taking a lot of asprin or such and i woke up and
i was absolutely devastated -- why dad, why did you do that

after a minute or two i remember he'd actually of cancer,
parkinsons, and then more cancer... two years ago.

but, for a bit, it seemed absolutely real
