I think rare record collectors might be worse but it's
close.

ah, i don't know. there are also horrible guitar nerds,
pedal nerds. maybe it even started with boutique pedals. i
think so, because muffwigglers' name comes from ehxs' muff
pedals

there is a modular memes thread on muffwiggler with some
butthurt nerds crying out to other self-ironic meme posters
for not being funny at all ;..D

they also call out andrew on there. yap, his music is
cringe. his clean, stylish studio looks like a
synthbro-ikea-rack. i don't like it at all

but he makes kids excited about synths on youtube, i give
him that. and yeah its all expensive products and capitalism
is bad brah… but we live in a capitalist reality

i remember reading an old aphex interview, where he got
driven around by his dad, buying used synths. kids should
rather buy a modular rack than buying a car. i remember the
first synth i wanted to buy from the first money i made from
working in the factory all summer was a doepfer system 100.
i bought a korg ms2000 instead O.O
my friend always wanted me to record something with it, so i
made him a tape of my improvisations. he then played it in
his car and told others, that its from a weird guy from
india who makes experimental live music. thats what it
sounded like to him =D

i just recently bought some modular stuff, after avoiding it
like the plague and i must say, its the most musical fun i
had in years. it makes me excited, gives me new ideas and
generally gets me interested in other stuff again, like
music software or building my own synths and synth
interfaces

i remember the first time andrew appeared in my youtube feed
and i was like ugh. but then realised hes more like a
moderator than an artist. and i remembered watching viva2 a
german music channel full of cringe moderators who played
aphex twin and made shows about experimental electronic
music where they interviewed cool artists and stuff. all
that stuff i don't want to do, but that helped me get the
info i needed in order to form my own opinion about it

cute story, bro ^_^

this video is probably the only offensive one, to
me. he spouts all this advert stuff about The Netherlands
(I'm happy he's more critical about synths), but i live
there: it's not a cute country, if you dig a bit deeper,
it's racist, fragile, conservative (to the point where it's
not even fake progressive, i.e. liberal)

Yeah that nails it, it's all these youtube guys thirsty for
views and subscribers. They act like cult recruiters from a
Scientology video.

I've seen some pretty good modular videos that just teach a
cool technique in a short segment. I also like creative
programming guys like Eli Fieldsteel and Daniel Shiffmann,
though I can see Shiffmann might be grating to some people.
I think he's genuine though, he really is bubbly like that.

I generally can't stand Andrew Huang. Have to agree that his
voice and trapezoidal eyebrows make him seem like an
android. But his new hearing loss video (muted and with
subtitles - can't stand his voice), which I only noticed
because I visited his channel to remind myself why I hate
him, made me feel a bit of compassion for him. I don't know.
I guess good on him for living the dream, if that's what
he's doing. His videos are exhausting, though.

I don't understand disliking both LMNC and Huang. If Huang
is a murderbot, Look Mum is quintessentially human. His
projects show originality and ingenuity (look at his monster
gameboy synth or his bicycle powered guitar amp and knife
fight me if you disagree). He's sort of like a mad
scientist's star pupil, or something. He comes across as
totally genuine and authentic, and not at all like he's
ingratiating himself to me just so he can sell me shit.
Probably my favorite music channel on youtube anymore. Mylad
Melodies and DivKid are lovely, as well.

my review is that it was some impressive producerchops and i
think it sounded nice. but it also sounded a bit same-y at
times. but that was maybe also due to having to work with a
small sample

Making music is difficult. My wife got me an audio interface
for xmas. I thought yay finally I’ll be able to string
together songs more easily, boy was I wrong. It still takes
time and tweaking to produce some cohesive whole, not to
mention dealing with noise and just things fucking up for no
apparent reason.
