They should have a gay version of each holiday the day
after, no the day before so some of the gayness will rub off
onto the original. No they should just convert the originals
to gay. Gay halloween, gay christmas. This can be done, all
it takes is memes. if the meme for "gay halloween"
outcompetes simply "halloween" then that's what it will be.

sounds heavier than "a v", it's kinda missing that wistful
vibe with the recorder n acoustic guitar. mind you i'm only
on the first track, listening now on their bandcamp

Friends, I am saddened and disturbed to report that trees
and power lines are down all over the city, damaged by high
winds summoned by witches. But don't fret, we are rounding
up creepy foreigners, widows and "loose women" and putting
them to the question.

That reminds me I haven't seen tons of Hammer movies, in
particular I want to see Plague of the Zombies and The
Reptile which if I recall correctly are both set in
Cornwall.

I watched the first Evil Dad because of Evil Dad Donck's
suggestion, looking around for the second one now. The first
one was released in 1981 and it's sooooo 1981, all the girls
have Saturday Night Live hairdos of the era.

the second one is pretty good. i totally forgot. i always
thought army of darkness was the first solidly entertaining
one, but evil dead 2 is great

you can watch it with mubi for free if you have a student
email
https://mubi.com

i wish i hadn't seen ash vs. evil dead, yet. that shit is
right up my alley. simply good entertainment, and it reminds
me of being 14 going to the flea market, buying copied
cassettes with photocopied covers from a weird guys car
trunk

oh no don't misunderstand me, I love the first one, the SNL
hair on the girls is a fun detail. The low budget and
crapulent make-up add to the charm and, in a way, the
scariness. Very Halloweeny.

It's possibly the first really great horror film of the 80s.
And others learned from how they financed and produced it,
and it created a taste for such things. There'd be no
Hellraiser etc. without it, I think.

Pretty sure I can tornt the second one somewhere.

Yes, I saw an episode of big bang theory on the plane the
other day which said the mask was a sharper mask turned
inside out and it made me bloody livid that they'd fuck up
something so simple. Why even bother

Oh my yes, I've seen it before, it's Mario Bava so you're
guaranteed wonderfully spooky set pieces and awful dialogue.

But the colours, the cheap but effective sets, the
nightmarish creepiness, all on a shoestring budget... really
good stuff. It's said to foreshadow some of the ideas,
visuals and atmosphere of Alien, like the space jockey.

I watched the first 3 Omens and I remember them being a lot
scarier. The first one still holds up, second is poor, third
is OK then goes silly at the end. Can't bring myself to
watch 4, or the remake. I want to see Exorcist II again but
can't find it anywhere. Surprisingly.,...

I love the first two Omens, esp. the graveyard scene in the
first one - and the Yigael's wall scene with Leo McKern in
Omen 2 gave me nightmares for years.

ps otorrents dot com has Exorcist II

Yeah the graveyard scene in one I remember being a lot
"darker", but then I do think this is a lot to do with
watching it on a cathode ray tube telly and, well, obviously
being a great deal younger, but... there's something lacking
now in these scrubbed up versions... you can't go back, I
know you can't, but, again, I just remember it
darker. Literally.

I watched the first Friday 13th as well, again cleaned up
for streaming, and I had to keep checking it wasn't a
re-make.

David Warner is such a good actor, not just in this (Omen),
but here he really embodies the kind of stoic every-man
caught up in something cosmically shitty. I always picture
him as "the hero" when I read a James Herbert book (which is
regularly).

offline Tony Danza from NAFO Suicide Hotline on 2019-11-06 01:30 [#02588622]

David Warner looks like he's cut from the same cloth as
James Herbert, at least from photos of young James Herbert.
Maybe it's the long face framed by long 70s hair.

In other news, Wolfen is a m a z i n g, much better than I
remembered. I'd almost rate it ahead of American Werewolf
except Diane Venora is no Jenny Agutter.
