What do you think about VR? Have you ever used a VR
headset? Are you interested in buying one? My Oculus
Username is Monoid. Add me if you like

my left eye is blind now (though not as gruesomely as
moomintroll's) so i guess it wouldn't work on me. but lemme
be captain obvious... what's it like to wank in VR? or are
you too busy flying through skyscapes n psychedelic
dreamworlds n stuff to crack one off?

never really did that, honestly
i once watched a bad striptease recorded in 360 and i didn't
really look at the girl. i mostly looked at the book
collection of the apartment it was recorded it, while she
was stripping behind my back

i guess its much crazier, now. i did that with the oculus
dev kit in 2014, that you could still connect to a laptop

one thing that was weird was looking at 3d scans of naked
people.
we found photogrammetric scans of two guys and two girls.
standing behind them, looking over their shoulders gave me a
sense of someone actually being there. and that was before
head position tracking

so with position tracking, you would also have a fun
experience belb

the whole thing just seems like a pain in the arse. the
content isn't there yet, and i don't think the technology
would work on cyclops mofos like me. i listen to music and
podcasts / audiobooks more than watch tv and film anyway.
thumbs down

if you didn't try it, you won't miss out too much these
days. its still in a weird phase, where the content is
mainly bleak

compared to the history of film, its still in brothers
lumiere phase, where its mostly a new attraction for many
people and tech heads

As far as I can tell it hasn't changed significantly since
the 90s except for polygon count. Maybe it will always be
bleak.

well, there are a few significant changes

vr systems went from being super expensive, exotic projects
hidden in labs or shown on a few conventions, to being quite
affordable with the cheapest option being the ps4 vr right
now

another change is the internet, which is a big chance for
vr/ar/mr. so, instead of stupid concepts of people going to
the cinema and everyone is wearing head glasses, people go
sit at home and wear head glasses and suddenly sit together
in a virtual cinema

in the future there will be theatre plays and performances
happening in vr and you can join them live and actually be
able to interact with a bodily interface

it just starts getting interesting because it becomes
affordable and then pours into our "normal society". when
you look back in history at the release of the first
consumer market hand camera from sony, people suddenly had a
chance to record themselves and experiment with their tv
screen. nam june paik was one of the pioneers of media art
and he bought the first hand camera and immediately started
getting weird with it.

in order to make an impact in society and form an artistic
language, more people need to have access to the technology
(though consumer products) and then will create a language
in order to communicate artistically though that medium.
this will happen in the next years. i want to be part of
that, thats why im wading through the shit right now

I have a vive, had an oculus Dec.kit before that. Don't use
it a lot now I'm not making anything for it, when it's works
it's phenomenal though. I have a laptop with a 1070 in it
which handles most stuff well enough. Tried porn with it and
a couple were really good and immersive.

Hi early my two favourite things to do have been to use the
Google earth app and watch movies on a 100m screen

Vr porn, well, it gets kinda boring after a while, because
you are eithdr looking on the chests of the women, or on
their backs. Not much variation there. VR porn is not the
future of sex

i'm just reading consider phlebas by iain m banks... it's
set in a far-off future with new species, body modifications
and new sexual enhancements. special supertesticles and
orgasms that last for hours. sounds better than digital
doggystyle if you ask me

I don't like it. My brother worked for a top firm using VR
tech. He promoted Oculus a long while before it started
becoming anything.

I think its fantastic technology that will be abused to no
benefit, like every scientific advacement of humanity.

Elite is dope, absolutely needs a proper flight controller
in VR though, impossible to keep track of keyboard

that sounds like a novel i would read and from the
description like it was not too far off richard morgan´s
altered carbon or parts of chasm city by alastair reynolds.
just love it when sci fi gets frisky.

as for vr porn. i liked the experience, but it didnt make me
wanna go back to it. theres still hope for vr in gaming
though. havent tried that since i dont spend 1000 bucks on a
maybe, let the spoiled kids push the technology.

handful of avatar sprites hiding inside an album art
wallpaper maze...

I think this picture is bullshit. VR is about human
connection. So i was using 'Wander' a few days ago, the VR
application that lets you view 360 degree photos of foreign
places.
Today i was talking to some of my work mates about their
holidays plans. Boring small talk you might think. But
actually, to my surprise they planed to go to diffrent
places in the real world i was visiting in VR a few days
before. Tho i never been there, i could share their
excitment of going there. That was like my real life VR
moment
