Can I surprise you? Or maybe it won't surprise you at all,
maybe it's just grimly inevitable. I've never been one for
the Expanded Universe aspect of Star Wars, but a couple of
months ago I had a long flight, and at the airport I picked
up Star Ware: Darth Plagueis, by James Luceno. And... it was
really good. And then I watched the prequels again and, with
all the background filled in, I just ignored the clunky
dialogue (like in the originals, I guess) and just
concentrated on the scenery... and for the first time I
actually enjoyed them.

I now I've bought a few more Luceno books (Tarkin, Catalyst,
Dark Lord Trilogy)... and I'm back into Star Wars. I'm
almost about to complete my collection of vintage Bounty
Hunters figures (just need Bossk).

This all said, the more I think about the new ones, the more
upset I get. And it's not because there's a fucking black
person in it, or too many women. It's because I'm about the
last analogue generation, and all this new shit's for the
digi-kids, who've been shaped by "social media". It smells
of non-binary ass sweat, and I am glad I am as old as I am.

I'm off to go and get Richard Ayoade to sign his new book
now, so you can all do one.

Pity poor Danza, if only there were people as clever as him
on this board.
