yeah it's cushy as fuck compared to the last place, i can
smoke at any time of day or night which keeps me
(relatively) sane. they're short staffed most of the time
too so the jumping-through-hoops you have to do as part of
the "recovery" is being quietly shelved. suits me fine, i'm
not sure i could watch another presentation on healthy
eating

I had to do a healthy eating course about 15 years ago, it
was a bit patronising, it was watching a middle aged woman
cooking a curry

we just had to watch an old video somebody had taped off
bbc3 and then answer questions at the end. the woman doing
it had been a primary school teacher and believe me it
showed

"population distributions of medieval Europe" or something
like that

did you ever watch the bbc2 schools programmes that used to
be on in the mornings in the early 90s? the headmaster
(named michael jackson, lol) at my old primary school taped
the oxygene-style music and used to play it as we all filed
in for assembly

cool that's a new one on me, nice synth wash. i've looked
all over youtube for the one he played but i can't find it,
it was like smartprice jean michel jarre though. used to
mildly hypnotize us all

if you're into all that schools programme vibe the dvd of
look around you with peter serafinowicz is worth picking up
just for all the bonus features

oh yeah I like that program and that era of school
programming it replicates. it had a certain atmos that's
hard to describe, I guess boards of Canada, their very early
stuff is the closest

yeah the incidental music off series 1 of look around you
was being passed off as boc on kazaa at one point. it's
listed on the dvd as being by "gelg" oddly enough but it's
nowt to do with me

current status: goddamn fucking family

my aunt died, after a drawn-out drama decline courtesy of
alzheimers. her husband, after a point, absolutely did not
want to deal with it; started being borderline abusive. my
mom and her other sister spend ages on the phone bitching,
but not actually doing anything.

a week or so ago she gets a bleed in her brain; she's not
waking up. she dies. my mom is freaking out, not because of
the loss of her sister, but what is she going to do with the
dog when she flies out to florida? who can she borrow a
suitcase from? she's going nuts trying to book a flight with
two day's notice, coordinating with my other aunt from that
branch, so they can rent a car together, because the place,
after you fly to florida, is a fucking mile and a half from
the airport.

as they are just getting this nailed down, my cousins
casually text her, oh we moved it to thursday. they are
flying back thursday; all the plans are now trash. my sister
is called in because my other aunt is in hysterics and my
mom is Officially Done With This Shit. the two of them are
burnt out ant they say: ok, no, we're not coming. instead,
we're going to plan something in NYC where we all grew up

my role in this is relegated to listening my mom rant for 45
minutes on a hedset, saying things like "yeah" "yeah"
"uh-huh" "oh jeez" "that's awful" and so on.

there are so many obvious questions on my mind: why are you
blaming my uncle and cousins when all you did was complain
to each other on the phone? why didn't you take charge of
this funeral shit in the first place, being a lot closer to
my aunt? but mostly: why not florida? hope it gets destroyed
by a hurricane next week. tired of hearing complaints; get
wrecked.

sorry to hear about your aunt. Family issues can be very
stressful, my gf has a 98 year old grand mother who is is
being fobbed off by her aunt for her dad and mother to deal
with while she spends the money and goes on holiday

the fucker of it is i want to just scream "you're all
behaving like shit, fuck off and stop slagging each other
off" as well as "mom, i know you were talking similar shit
about me when my life was chaos and now that i hear you
talking about my (other, still alive) aunt like that i don't
even begin to know how to reply" but of course i can just
say "yeah" "yeah" "oh, that's awful"

my cousins, her kids, i hear, are conservative trump sorts.
i try to think of something i can do; my brain asplode. at
least i have a good track going with some jungle samplez

alzheimers is strange. she would remember things from twenty
years ago, but also tell people to have some cash in the
drawer and later accuse them of stealing it. the last proper
conversation i had with her, over a year ago, lasted a
while. i mentioned an apple II and she was talking about
apple II shit from twenty years ago but didn't retain memory
of that conversation for later. knowing this, i deliberately
prompted her for old memories, and they came out readily.
very strange

yes its very odd, my gfs other grandmother has it, we asked
her what year it was and she said 1973 and she can have full
blown conversations with people who aren't there, its very
bizzare

as you say long term memory is retained much better, she
remembers something that happened 70 years ago, but she
doesn't even remember if she had lunch that day

it as if your your memory simply stopped, one day.
everything up to that point, sure, fine. past that,
connections kind of stop happening in a gradual sense,
leaving the overall network in a strange, increasingly
irrelevant sort of freeze-frame
