Have you heard of the boss d110? You can add din sync and tonal mods to it. It sounds like a thinner 606 and it has a clap.

I like the highly artificial, metallic sound of the 606 hihat, but it's almost a novelty sound to me at this point. The rest of the 606 is even more limited to me. If I were to get a machine, the new Korg drum fingy seems more like it -- bunch of drum synths and a step seq
For arptk4, I just set up a drum loop blasting in milky on a shit laptop in the corner and ran it into one channel of the mixer, and that worked pretty well. Thinking maybe I should sequence the drums in milky and then just play the synths live. Isn't that how squarepusher used to do it? Except I wouldn't need an external sampler; a shit old Thinkpad is fine

yeah the volca drum is really good or you could get a korg er 1 for a similar price
someone made a new firmware for it, you can replace the stock PCM samples with your own wav files

Thanks, Umbroman3, really appreciate the heads up on that firmware. You are turning it a real Gear Guru ("Gearu"?).
I still have my, previously Jivverdicker's, ER-1 somewhere, will be good to replace the open hi-hat and cymbal (which I never use) with some shaker sounds.

using the grandmother's built-in spring reverb requires some practice. if you just sweep the knob up, the dB levels dive by half; you have to be ready to ramp up the mixer fader to compensate for the drop in level

so apparently the arp out of the moog grandmother will clock shit, sort of. the casio receiving the clock was not so much following along, as stuttering. like, repeatedly losing its place and starting over. i can work with this
