https://onlychildtyrant.bandcamp.com/

A lot more listenable than his arthouse material imo

i feel like original amon tobin peaked with "supermodified"
and never recovered

this does not sound like original amon tobin -- it's more
hip-hop than jazz. a bit of prodigy. solidly ok so far.

i think he got tired of clearing bollywood samples and went
all "foley room" with a fucking seaboard controller and the
original feel was just lost. it still ain't back

Supermodified is alright but even after Permutation it went
all production values and i haven't really cared much since
i'm afraid

Yea I got a fatboy slim vibe from a lot of it. After a
second listen I'm really enjoying it. But some things throw
me off. Some of the loops feel too simple. Like he has to
consciously simplify things, but in doing so misses some
creative opportunities.

Overall I'm happy with this output, because I cannot digest
the recent album of his under his usual name.

was never a big fan, but this track with roots manuva is
heavy. it also mixes really well with knifehandchop -
dancemix2000 if you can be bothered doing a few judicious
edits

i was very deliberate with a comparison to prodigy

the first track on this bandcamp is like Invaders Must Die
with less drums, more hip hop

oh he's actually posted his own reply to this thred in the
bandcamp description: "He’s been listening to his
uncle’s collection of rock (from Beefheart and Zeppelin to
Fugazi via Dick Dale and beyond) and stealing his
brother’s 90’s mixtapes and it’s all gone to his
head.

Yeah and he ends doing highly repetitive shit.

I like repetition, but subtle this ain’t.

i haven't followed up on him in awhile. over the weekend i
went to a show he did a dj set as his two fingers alias, but
it was all that post-dubstep/half-time stuff (which was
still good, just way more mainstream than i was expecting).
will have to look into his newer material and see if there's
any crossover elements or sounds. think i like foley room
the most out of all his stuff; honestly, even though i like
breaks/drill n' bass, not too fond of when people start
getting too jazzy with it, like amon tobin does sometimes.

I bit the bullet and purchased the flac files. there's a lot
more going on than the stream quality reveals. no regrets

yea I dunno. I don't see a lot of interest for this album,
but I'm totally hooked.

I want to play it out like it was amon tobin 2003
