pi projects are like children. it's easy to make one, but then you have to raise it, spend time building cabinets and figuring out linux problems and most of them wind up at the adoption agency.
back in like 2014, i cobbled together an elaborate music system. i set up a pi my living room running icecast, and it would just stream whatever connected to it. downstairs, a computer ran winamp, winamp generated shoutcast. i found a winamp add-on that lets you control winamp from your smartphone, and then... i could shuffle, add, rewind tracks from my phone. but then there was like an eight second delay because of the streaming and recently i've found it more convenient to simply devote an old laptop to be a living room music player.
also circa 2014 -- the idea i had of mounting a pi inside a bent yamaha, wire it up to the ghetto fm chip -- that got about a third of the way along, i'd about finished wiring all the points into the yamaha, mounted d-sub connectors, banana jacks. cleared a space for the pi. then my life exploded, and it's been mostly gathering dust since. perhaps i'll get back to it someday

your right for convenience sake, its probably not the best option, but I guess putting it all together is part of the fun, I know exactly what you mean though

it's more that i've learned i have to be very restrained in committing to new projects, or i'll be like a manic buying everything in the store. i'm easily excited; easily bored.
it starts off as an idea, and it's downhill from there. bringing the idea into reality necessitates compromise: problems you didn't anticipate. what was dreamed up as a fast-forward montage of work is something that will actually take you a solid week, if you could devote your full effort to it, and didn't have a job. but you have a job, and in two days, you'll have another idea
so, well, it's kind of win-win to be more reserved, and keep most of them as ideas; be very deliberate about what you let out of the gate

to wit, i almost impulse-ordered one of the new pi's. i don't even have a specific idea. but, then i thot: ohhh, ehh, i have a couple of the second-gen pi's i haven't dusted off in ages, i may as well just keep working on music and sorting out my collection of obsolete computer equipment
