was listening to Africa by Toto and by the end of the song
the main synth seems half a tone lower in pitch than at the
start

"In electrical engineering, and particularly in
telecommunications, frequency drift is an unintended and
generally arbitrary offset of an oscillator from its nominal
frequency. Causes may include component aging,[1] changes in
temperature that alter the piezoelectric effect in a crystal
oscillator, or problems with a voltage regulator which
controls the bias voltage to the oscillator. Frequency drift
is traditionally measured in Hz/s. Frequency stability can
be regarded as the absence (or a very low level) of
frequency drift."

yes, thats the beauty of analogue machines

going out of tune is not the same as drift, drift goes in
and out of tune

yeah more variation in timbre, drifting sounds I guess, all
the VSTs I have sound really artificial

ok yeah, I guess most of the time its something like the
components warming up and becoming more resistant to the
electrical signal

I wonder if when everyone uses their kettle, and power
supply is effected a small amount everyones analogue synths
go slightly out of tune
