before i had the internet -- before i had electronic music,
really -- i would read a lot. particular books, i would read
them over and over. some easily clocked into the dozens. if
i had to do this for albums, it would be a long list

actually, i've been doing that ever since i was old enough
to have read enough books to start to feel like circling
around back

in that vein, just a few, in the precise order i think of
'em

fatboy slim - better living through chemistry
fatboy slim - halfway between the gutter and the stars
chemical brothers - surrender
chemical brothers - dig your own hole
clannad - dulaman
prodigy - first three albums

this is more or less a variation of the "desert island"
thread, "which ten albums would you take to a desert
island?"

asking "which albums do you play over and over and never get
tired of the most" is better, i feel -- not turning it into
a shortlist, a competition, just a catalog

crystal method - vegas
add n to (x) - loud like nature
add n to (x) - avant hard
add n to (x) - add insult to injury
ellen allien & apparat - orchestra of bubbles
clark - iradelphic
money mark - money mark's keyboard repair

would seriously not mind listening to any of these all day
long

okay, but you're only allowed to pick one, as per what the
thread title states. make it a good one!

#1 pick ~ silence, so i can just replay what i want in my
hed

no joke, at one point in my life i became terrified of going
deaf, and started memorizing some of my favorite songs as
closely as possible, just so i wouldn't go insane. playing
them back in my hed, i've gotten good at it, get goosebumps
and all. but, still, the real thing is superior

you know, it's funny you mention silence when i don't even
care about listening to music really either; it's actually
just sounds & noises i like to listen to and some of those
sounds & noises i like happen to be arranged into music
sometimes. so really, i could do without music or listening
to it as well as long as i had the right sounds & noises.

music really invades my brain, and, generally, that is a
nice thing. like a mood control knob for my brain. but if i
had one soundtrack for the rest of eternity, yes, it would
be silence -- so i could just imagine all the music i want,
rather being stuck on an infinite elevator muzak. seriously,
what a nitemare, this whole thred's concept

It's not going to shock anyone, but it genuinely is Selected
Ambient Works 85-92.

I thought this thread was going to be Name one album you've
never really "got" but you keep going back listening to it
trying to "get it" - a question I don't know if it would
make a valid thread... of?!!? I'd certainly have to think
harder about the answer, I know there IS an answer...

I don't listen to a lot of music lately, I listen a lot to
formless ambient drone like Main, stuff that sounds like
walking through an antenna farm shrouded in radioactive fog
.

In the same way you're going to make hevquip cross by not
sticking to ONE album, I am going to say the opening
combination of Xtal and Tha makes for the best "track" on
SAW85-92

oh yeah one album, mmm yeah if I was to do a desert island
disk I don't think I could do it, probably I care with the
bonus tracks then

yeah with SAW I can listen to it start to end and it has
never diminished in all the time I have listened to it, most
albums you get sick off but never this one, tha is probably
my fave track, or Ptolemy

I know my answer to that better than I know my answer to
hevquip's question, it's Campfire Headphase.

Seeing as this an electronic music board I’ll go with LP5
by Autechre. Any other day I might have chose another
(Autechre) album.

Interesting you should say that one, I know I struggled with
it (I've given up on it for now, though the other day I did
pick up a copy of Trans Canada Highway from a charity shop,
so it's never entirely absent). I've never quite
"got" Geogaddi in the way that Music Has a Right... became
part of my very being. I almost mentioned this but
then thought it might be best to keep this to myself

Campfire is very hippy. It has the BOC sound but at its
poppiest.

I'll never tire of Nipsey's magnum opus, and likewise I'll
never forget where I was when I heard the tragic news that
Nipsey had been slain. (I was browsing Twitter.)

I was explaining all this to Missus Wilco and she was
cracking up, not believing me that Beyonce went to someone
called Nipsy's funeral. And then she said "I bet someone got
shot" and of course, she was right. I can't help but feel
it's what Nipsy would've wanted.

Who the fucking hell was Nipsy?

Aw man first with biggie and now this track. Really brings
me back to a great time of my life. I used to put this track
on when alone and dance like a motherfucker. Good track to
clean to as well. That melody is so epic, with that vocal
sample.
