A lot of people forget this, but following the gorilla's slaying Harambe was immediately weaponized by white nationalist sites like 4chan and r/The_Donald. Elon Musk's dogwhistling of the meme is certainly a troubling development. I've been concerned about his political leanings since his appearance on the alt-right-adjacent podcast of "Intellectual Dark Web" figure Joe Rogan, and at this point I can't see myself ever buying a Tesla. Thankfully there are other companies with great electric car offerings, so next time I'm looking to fight climate change with a new vehicle purchase I'll be checking out what BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Volkswagen have available. |
