for president

i remember loving cDc philez when i was young; caught the
tail-end of the BBS era. i never interacted with those guys,
but they were great writers

particularly count zero

apparently, beto was "The Psychedelic Warrior" and the media
is tut-tutting of a troll story he wrote when he was
fifteen; i think Count Zero would make a far superior
Cowmander In Chief

interviewing a neo-nazi in the park with one of the other
guys from that band. how many foss members were a part of
cDc? is it really icelandic for waterfall? perhaps it's
actually Free and Open Source Software

just having a moment here as it's dawning on me that a
democratic presidential candidate wrote text files for a
hacker text file group i read text files from when i was 12.
pulled the same sort of troll nonsense i did in high school.
wrote rants about money on the internet. perhaps there is
hope

he probably won't win. but it's still nice

Eventually, Kingpin and I collected ourselves. I donned
my shades and carefully arranged the Cow Talisman in the
center of my suit. We moved to the speaker table and
practiced our gang hand signals to Drunkfux. I spoke about
the L0pht and packet radio. Other speakers distributed
handouts like confetti. The crowds boiled around the table
grasping frantically, reminding me of mornings on my
grandfather's boat... as we chummed for sharks in the dark
waters.

"Information not only wants to be free, it wants to be
consumed," I pondered.

Now, finishing this piece in the L0pht, I can relax to
music and watch
mesmerizing fractal patterns on one of my monitors. I think
of a con years
past, where Crimson Death and I were talking with Bruce
Sterling standing next
to a payphone. "I don't need to hack... I have money... I
can make that
payphone do anything I want without hacking," said Bruce.
"Yeah Bruce,"
replied Crimson Death, "but can you make it dance?" I
laughed and accidentally
extinguished my cigarette in Bruce's unfinished beer.
Hackers make machines
dance. Beautiful.

if not for cDc, riced out yugo might probably not exist. i'd
never made that connection before.... that sense of isolated
fragments of clever nonsense written by various peoples

man alive, that x-eyed bovine logo-thing stirred up a trace
memory of troughing .txt filez and games in my childhood. my
dad ran a bbs for a while and i'd peruse his various looted
bits and bobs every second saturday when he had custody. i
remember thinking the cDc were cool but not really
understanding why. i think my dad's respect for them kinda
rubbed off on me... damn, that's a good 25+ year old memory
unearthed

Today’s governmental hackers are mere childeren turned
into hacking geniuses much like in that film Ender’s Game
(except with hacking).

Do you like chillies, in Ohio?

i was not particularly excited about o'rourke until i found
out that he's been a part of cDc since the beginning:

Members of the group have protected O’Rourke’s secret
for decades, reluctant to compromise his political
viability. Now, in a series of interviews, CDC members have
acknowledged O’Rourke as one of their own. In all, more
than a dozen members of the group agreed to be named for the
first time in a book about the hacking group by this
reporter that is scheduled to be published in June by Public
Affairs. O’Rourke was interviewed early in his run for the
Senate.

first time in a while i've felt like voting for any
presidential candidate for reasons other than "stop the
conservative nuts"

In November of that year, the group claimed
responsibility for giving Ronald Reagan Alzheimer's disease,
claiming to have done so in 1986 with a blowgun.[10]

Gotta say it's pretty fucking disgusting that Beto is in
favor of giving literal Nazis a platform on the Internet. I
used to think he had a fair chance of defeating Trump in the
Electoral College and becoming our first Latino president
but I don't think I'll ever be able to support him anymore.
For now I'm sticking with Bernie. I just wish there was a
strong woman of color candidate I could get behind
