i found John Frusciante's acid house stuff after i found
myself on a big red hot chili peppers kick, as of late. just
got into stadium arcadium for the first time.

i was obsessing over the distortion textures in "especially
in michigan." the aforementioned textures are exactly i was
trying to do with my acid house track "stank bomb" back off
of human controlled in 2012 or so. the distortion stomp box is
an altar where rock and electronic meet and say hello

my brain starts translating "especially in michigan" to my
jungle acid milky tracker style. that would work. it would
sound nice. it would take months though, fuck it

then later i'm googling around.... and, John Frusciante has
abandoned his ability to immediately generate textures with
guitar, and taken up persuit of programmed music that takes
months, because he deeply wants to do electronic, to be a
producer

the grass is always greener

it is actually pretty charming, to me. i can hear it. guy
knows melody, and rhythm to a t but he's new to acid. deeply
impressive melodic programming, great use of BBD, complete
lack of a human turning knobs. just programmed. someone
please explain to mr. frusciante that if he grips cutoff and
resonance simultaneously, he will find it immediately
familiar as what he knows as "wah-wah"

specifically, i was running a roland sh-101 through a
digitech metal master with very fussed-over EQ. i was doing
my darndest to get a RHCP guitar tone out of an acid synth

and in between the sh-101 and the metal master was the korg
ms2000 acting as aux fx, that's the flange/bbd you hear all
over my fings of that era

i started off with software, high school, year 2000 or so.
first songs obviously simple, succeeding songs i'd try to
leverage what i'd figured out for more complex tracks. a
basic assumption that i would not repeat myself

six years later, it takes me a week to do half a track. i've
been using plugins for years, i've done all the obvious
stuff, and doing anything new requires a significant amount
of upfront work. it starts feeling tedious. meanwhile, i'm
starting to get proper jobs, and with that, buy synth
hardware

as opposed to hours with a mouse, just reach out and mash.
fell in love with it. the guy that was probably my most
hardcore fan was not happy; where is the old nevenen, i miss
the old nevenen

and i had not much argument. compared to my VST music, my
live acid was pretty bad. i knew it, but i was having too
much fun to care. it took me another six years, until 2011
or so, before it was on par with what i was doing with VST.

then in 2014, grave times, had to sell most of the hardware
off. don't really write anything for a good while. 2017 i
start messing around with milkytracker as a joke, got
hooked

now as i write with milkytracker, it's a significantly
different mindset than my ancient VST days. as i write,
those years working with hardware are constantly yelling at
me. results are significantly more human feeling

havent you learnt about syntesys yet? i mean textually. i
read a title on linked of TED post, that talked about
texting as actively improving your communication skills.
havent you come up with the idea of writing short stories or
anecdotes, concentrating the things you want to say into
less whale-ish concepts?

they were quite fun in the 80s I reckon, but they became a
very very bland MOR ballad band
