i'd like to share one last anecdote with whom it may concern: on his first day in school in france, the teacher asks an algerian boy what his name is. "mahmoud." the boy replies. the teacher objects: "what sort of name is that? you are a french citizen, so we must give you a french name. from now on your name is jean françois." after school the boy goes back home and his mom calls him: "mahmoud!" "my name isn't mahmoud, it is jean françois." the boy replies. the mother whacks him up. his father arrives home and he calls the boy: "mahmoud!" to which the boy answers the same and gets another whacking. the next morning, when the boy goes back to school the teacher asks: "françois! what happened to you?" the boy answers: "madame, you wouldn't want to know. i got beaten by two arabs." |
