apparently, there was an eathquake here at 6:30 AM or something.... 5.1 on the richter scale! I slept through it.... but maybe this is leading to the total destruction of Los Angeles..... seriously, they're expecting an enourmous quake soon..... any thoughts on this?

New York state isn't known for destructive earthquakes, luckily :)
but sometimes they can lead to other ones around the world....
maybe the loss of LA wouldn't be so bad...

I felt the earthquake here in montreal. It woke me and I wondered why I was shaking. then i touched the headboard of the bed, and it was shaking. I was still puzzled. Then I touched the wall, and it was shaking. that was wierd.

I heard about that quake. I didn't feel anything here though! I think it's kind of scary that the northeast has no surface faults but there is potential for a major earthquake to strike the region nonetheless.
I think I read somewhere that one of the strongest earthquakes in north America was actually recorded in Missouri in the 19th century.

In some morbid and sick way, I kind of want LA to be destroyed by a huge quake and just drift out to sea. Maybe float away into the ocean and become a detached colony out there. At least it would be something interesting. It would suck to be from LA, though... :-/

Like in that movie? I forget the title, but an earthquake hit SoCal and LA was seperated from the landmass, and it became a prison colony.
I think it was called "escape from LA"

Exactly!!! And maybe all the gangs and everything could fight for supremacy on this new island nation. It would make watching the news interesting again, I'd forget all about Afghanistan.
Of course millions of people would die... but hey, I didn't say I wasn't morbid.
