There’s definitely racial animus in SA. If people think apartheid is in the past they are dreaming. Not only does it still exist in the “hearts and minds “ of people (so to speak) but also in the geography of the country. Most people still live in the same places they were forced to move to during apartheid. I’m not surprised that there is animosity. But you will have to be more specific. When tonymouse asked me about trustworthy sa news sources - that made me snort a little because, is there truly such a thing? Everyone has an agenda, even those fighting what they consider the good fight, or the ones you may agree with. There’s some quote from an ex American president (or was it Churchill? Always Churchill) where he said he liked to read everything between far right and far left and then formulate an opinion around that. Our opinions are based on a variety of sources which no single individual has the time to verify. We are living in a time where people have access to more information than ever becfore and again I’m not surprised that people use this to wield power and influence. I thought everyone was aware of how propaganda works at this point. It’s just more convoluted now than b4 Ironically we are more in the dark now that we have more information. Often we just like to believe what suits our world view and that draws us towards certain sources and influencers. There are obvs different forms of power and the media is a great tool for swaying opinions and exerting power (over the mind and in turn, actions), no doubt. Try to understand that it’s not simply taking for no reason. It actually makes sense and living here it is glaringly obvious that something needs to be done. The implementation of that is where the problems arise. And people are being forced to give up their land that have been in their families for generations. So they get mad.
