Ha, I'm sorry. You can still do it, I'll definitely have
forgotten again by then.

i still love all the speed garage that came out around 97/98
but 20 fucking years, my god we don't get long on this
planet do we

in response your question though, leaving aside the maudlin
shit, i think only propellerheads and fatboy slim sounding a
bit naff now and they were a bit cheesy at the time. shame
dig your own hole came out the year before, still listen to
that once in a while

Yeah 20 years is mad. If I'm lucky thats a quarter of my
life, god knows how many times ive listened to some of these
albums.

Agree with you about fatboy slim, that and How To Operate...
are the two that have aged the worst for me, both big beat
releases on Skint that are very much of their time for
better and worse.

I'm trying to think of other stuff that came out the same
year but my memory is appalling.

Decksanddrumsandrockandroll

i remember the power had gone out because of snow, and i was
on some battery speakers listening to "velvet pants." since
there was nothing else to distract me, i was paying
particularly close attention.

they hide orch hits inside the snare. the snare is mostly
what you hear, on a casual listen... but there's a pattern
of a few little orch hits played on top of the snares, timed
just-so, and it's like the flavor filling inside box
chocolates. with the snares being the chocolate shell.

the snare, by itself, would be a white flash. but the orch
hits turn them into little burts of color

it is a very good trick. there are plenty of others on the
album. also shirley bassey. she's on the album too
