dont they play motives with bells where you live at certain
times of the day like when the evening has approached, right
when your belly is full and you're on the couch chatting on
xltronic. aaah.

I'm surrounded by no less than 4 churches and none of them
ring their bells. One has choir practice once a week which I
can hear, that's it.

My flat happens to be in a hipster-neighbourhood in the
"atheist capital of Europe" . So there's a nice
gothic-looking church-building nearby. But it's not used as
a church anymore and has become an "arts center" where you
can look at very unispired art. So no church-bells for me. I
wouldn't mind them.

A few kilometers away there's a church in the forest where
they sometimes play simple, medievial melodies on the
church-bells. I enjoy those.

The flat where I live overlooks a church which is no longer
a church but a recording studio where people such as
Thurston Moore go to rehearse and record (the majority seem
to be tuneless fucks plodding out the same fucke). However
on a Sunday some Black Church uses it and do all the thing
that they do, loudly. I mean, I don't mind, I think their
heart's in the right place and they cause no fuss. Other
people moan about it, but, to me, it's harmless. And I speak
as someone who gets annoyed very easily.

But no bells. Sadly.

There’s few churches nearby but I don’t hear the bells
much; also I don’t see/hear/know of choirs.

I used to chat with this great reverend nearby until he went
back to Australia. He had a doctorate in theology and was
smashing to talk with; we’d have great, deep
conversations. I learnt a lot from him. Once in a while I
would go to his service on a Sunday, but I pretty much
nearly always failed him. There’s something that creeps me
out about groups of people (i.e religions, cults, political
groups) having ceremonies. He was a very clever man, he
taught me a lot, but not so much in church. Since he left I
haven’t been back. So no I don’t go to church, though I
did learn a lot about the bible and what the beliefs held
are exactly thanks to this rev. I must say I found that most
of what I learnt from him was pretty solid.

the belbs, the belbs

(ho ho ho)

there's a chapel / contemplation space thingy here in
hospital but it's all the way ovèr on the other side of the
ward and i'm too lazy to have my eternal soul saved. nah i
jest but a lot of the more religious guff i've come out with
has been influenced by the voices i hear on a daily basis,
it's hard to remain rational at times.

the actual services i've been to here have been pretty wishy
washy middle of the road c of e gubbins, i don't remember a
lot of what our polite but underwhelming vicar had to say

though i admit having the knows about how to take stuff like
the bible is key, but you have to really meet some kind of
talented person to get your curiosity and enthusiasm.

yes chapels in hospitals are sadder than mosques in
airports, but in the latter you can at least lay on the
ground and sleep. having tried both

hope you continue that way and come out of it, and the shit
voices stop because you arrived to it with your brain

I once went to the local Sufi-Muslims. Given their
reputation for a philosophical and peace-oriented approach I
was curious how they'd explain those passages in the Koran
people are usually upset about (slaughtering unbelievers
etc). The answer I got was not that great. I was told a
parable about a mother who takes her child to the doctor and
then the doctor subscribes some heavy medicine the mother
doesn't want, but which is necessary.

Then I went to their worship service. It was quite
astonishing. Three women dressed in black robes, sort of
like witches, entered the room. Then they picked up the
scriptures of the Hindus, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, the
Hebrew Bible, New Testament and Koran and read out passages.
Then there was singing, prayer and a mixture of more or less
solid philosophical musings and wishy-washy tips for a
harmonic life that could have been taken straight out of a
women's magazine. It was both fascinating and repelling and
weird as fuck.

there is a wind chime down the street that chimes the notes
from the exorcist; happy halloween. a wind chime is a kind
of bell.

my best friends lived id say less than 100 meters from a
modern church building with a large tower. i remember how i
was astounded of the volume the bells had even with closed
windows. they were ringed (thats not the right word i guess,
because it understates the effect) hourly and usually more
than just single bells. it appeared to be a whole concert
everytime. he absolutely hated it and i guess it must have
been quite annoying, since it was so loud and constant. they
ringed them for 15 mins on service too, which can be quite a
long time if you dont like the sound of it. it didnt make me
wish to live near a church and eventually they moved away.

the bells were kind of anonymous, no virtuosity or
something, must have been an order of the pope
