last night i saw nonsense characters in my mind's eye as i was trying to sleep. i blame you details: sparse, large-font, maybe 36, color had a 16-color VGA feel but more desaturated, nothing to do with anything i'd been seeing that day afaik |

So, do I understand you correctly? They were not letters of the Latin alaphabet or other known symbols, but actually nonsensical characters ? What did the characters as such look like? (Or were they normal alphanumeric characters, just in a nonsensical order?) (It might make a difference) |

You compare suddenly seeing a picture in the "mind's eye" to a suddeny apeearing natural, objective phenomenon like fireflies. There are some parts of the mind that "belong to onself", so to speak, in the sense that you can control them. You can make a note to do X at time TT:TT and then do it. It would thus be fair to say that you are the author of that action. Then there are other aspects of the mind one has no control over. Images or ideas that suddenly enter the mind, or dreams. Here it's very doubtful if you can really claim to be the author. ... So if you aren't the author, who ist? Is it nature? Might there actually be a genuine alikeness between looking at a spontaneously emerging image in one's mind's eye and looking at a scene of nature? |

that's a nice thought, but i'm afraid you've totally over-read my original intent. so, i'll phrase it more clearly. you said, "Sounds slightly unnerving but also slightly amusing to me" my response is: it was not unnerving at all! i was almost as delighted as i was when i saw fireflies for the first time in ages... i see that sort of visual garbage quite regularly, actually, but i can't recall seeing characters like that before, and perhaps you are the author of that action sir or, like i said, it's from staring at the blocky DOS font in milkytracker for three days |

I was consciously "over-reading" it ... It's a strategy. Over-exagerrate certain aspects of reality and sometimes you discover half-hidden structures that are really there. But I rest my case |
