if i had to offer some feedback to this eager-to-please
soundcloud salary member, it would be this: i really dislike
having some random twat's track play after mine. i have my
own web hosting, and i'd rather people hear my shit in 320kb
over 128kb because i've putting a lot of effort into getting
the grainy aliasing just right; it's not every chap that
digs through the menus until he finds gems like a setting
called "Amiga 500 Anniversary Edition Interpolation"

the Amiga Interpolations, wasn't that by Edward Elgar?

i dunno, really. it's something to do with how it futzes
with the samples when you pitch 'em and stitch 'em. trackers
originate back in the times of C64, and there are a lot of
demoscene chaps who are livid if the SID emulator
doesn't include a checkbox for the batch of 3mil c64s that
had a 6581 with a buggy volume register:

Many characteristics of the SID sound are bugs,
technically seen, but depending on the point of the listener
they can be seen as features or were used to hack the chip.
For example the volume register design flaw in the original
6581 chip was used to play back samples. Every time the
volume register value was altered, an audible click could be
heard. By changing the first 4 bits of the register at $D418
fast enough, samples can be played back with rates up to
some kHz (depends on the code and what else uses rastertime)
with 4 bit resolution. In the later 8580 model this "bug"
was fixed and samples were inaudible, but it is possible to
revert this by soldering a 470kΩ resistor or, if you want
to be able to adjust the level, a 1MΩ pot in series between
EXT IN and GND. Even better sample playback can be achieved
by altering the pulse width modulation register, which can
hold an eight bit value.

so you have decades of stuff that's been lovingly emulated
and i rather like the idea of using this to craft an
aesthetic. and soundcloud murders that aesthetic. the
monster

I never knew that, I knew that they tried to get more out of
it that that the documented scope of the SID chip,

bit of rob hubbard

yeah, i love how milkytracker has a little oscilloscope for
each track. i'm not sure it's possible to make a
good-sounding track that doesn't also make cool patterns
with the eight little scopes.

i have multiple covers of "commando" on my dard hisks
