the intro, to me, is like a 256-color DOS animation of water dropping from a tree branch to a fern, then from the fern into a lake. then a drum loop. upgrade from drips to a bit of running water. a slight dramatic pause. then 303 and stacked drum loops, wallop, torrent then about 0:33 things are just kinda beyond words 0:44 i've spent three days on the first 40 seconds and i've been neglecting everything else so i just kind of squeeze it out because i have to get back to the rest of my life... ...and, now i kind of regret that. the first forty seconds or so are pefect. the rest is a bit muddy, it could be perfect, i didn't make it perfect, rrrrr. bothering me. bothering. me. i think i will go back and do more work on this trax. when i have time. ugh. i want to spend all day on it right now and i can't |

i'm starting to get a feel for how you can imply melody that isn't there with clever gating. if you have a detroit doodoo noise and a hoover and they're being bent around, out of tune with each other in a particular way, the ear can get confused and have trouble deciding which one of them is the root pitch. cut one or the other out of the mix, and your ear snaps to the remaining one as the winner. then you restart the cut note, and instead of hearing them fight, you hear it as a chord... attentional slight of hand very suited to an add internet derp like me |

the pitch bends on the 303 go a little too far that last round, yes. it actually gave me a mild freak-out when i was writing stuff. after i played that last measure, i'd skip back to the beginning of the song and everything sounded horribly wrong. i was shitting myself thinking it was all just a mess and i'd missed it, then it sounded great again the next day. until i hit that measure at the end, and replayed it... i had the same thing happen to me on mushrooms -- pitches will bend around and i was freaking out because i felt like music was broken -- but here it's just like swishing mouthwash before drinking a glass of OJ. i generally avoided listening to the last measure when working on the song. last measure was something else, i think in any case, i might remove that, because it has the potential to destroy certain people's ability to listen to the song multiple times in a row. |
