Is Max still the lingua franca for that kind of thing, or
are there also lots of processing, pure data, supercollider
etc. users in the department?

marlowe, i have a question. when does playing a chord or a
note that doesn't belong to the key you are in stops being a
modulation and becomes an error? is there any theory behind
it? cause i guess you could make a harsh modulation but
still it wouldn't be considered an error.

don't put yourself down dude!
what gets me about some of the academic electronic music
bods I've met (like the ones who run the depts.) is that
they seemed to treat me like a lower form of life until
they'd seen my shit, and then after that I could do no
wrong. Lovely clevrer chaps n' all, but i don't really trust
that.

Yesterday I was listenting to music with friends who happen
to be professional classical musicans. I find it bizarre
that they listen to a piece of music for the first time and
then immediately talk about the "augmented second", "the
chords not being filled in, only the 1 and 5", point out the
mode-changes and this and that. Are they robots?

yeah, they can just hear something play and play it as it
is, with the voicing and everything.
