yes it too much of a convoluted process, and you get one
thing out of it, its something I couldn't do, in an
emotional sense, I couldn't.

Its a very strong nostalgia thing for me, reminds me of
simpler times

when my mum gets nostalgic its something like buying pick
and mix for half a penny and the fact you could leave your
back door open without being robbed, for me its something
like playing xenon 2 on a winter morning, It reminds me what
its like to be excited for stuff, you loose being able to
get excited when your older, well I have for the most part

patching is just as fun in max or supercollider tho.

if you have a goal you can achieve it .

then you will look back at your patch with nostalgia

yes that's true, I have another pc in a different room I go
on for that sort of thing, away from distraction, this pc on
now is my amiga emulation, surfing, listening to music and
watching red dwarf pc, I just replaced my dvd drive
yesterday in it to rewatch

'Doug Naylor has said on Twitter that he cancelled the
releases as the picture quality wasn't good enough. "

I'm trying to find the tweet

im pretty sure some of the comedy dvds i have are worse than
vhs.

4.7gb with one pass encoding and low bit rate mp3 audio.

i remember having brand new red dwarf 1 and 2 on a brand new
vhs player and sony triitron screen sooo nice.

analogue sound hypersflake.

yes its true, I think some of the encoding has a lot to be
desired, I noticed sound issues on the beginning of DNA
series 4 when you are watching with headphones,

Also cos of resolution they look better on CRT as that's the
format they ere broadcast on

You can get encoders that do multiple passes for dvd as
many as you could stand to wait around for.

cinemacraft was the best ive used. takes ages but the end
result is almost like uncompressed.

offline Hyperflake from Wirral (United Kingdom) on 2017-09-25 19:28 [#02532202]
Points: 30733 Status: Lurker

do you mean to extract them?

offline freqy on 2017-09-25 19:33 [#02532203]
Points: 18724 Status: Regular | Show recordbag

i mean to take an uncompressed video file, say a render
from a 3d prog.
720 x 576 for dvd.

Then create the mpeg video files from that ( which you use
to create/author vobs)

you let the encoder pass through the original file 1 2 3
4.... times. Each pass the encoding gets better and better

offline Hyperflake from Wirral (United Kingdom) on 2017-09-25 19:35 [#02532204]

I see, yes I doubt they considered this during making the
DVD's

i mean there are encoding progs that do a amazing job like
cinemacraft. but they are very expensive, to do it legally.

i think the prog i mention is used by hollywood.

if it was on blu ray they could de-interlace the picture as
well

I hope they dont try and wide screen it.

and lose information.

yes 4:3 aspect ratio as well, also if they convert it to
ntsc for world market it would run slower

offline freqy on 2017-09-25 19:47 [#02532216]
Points: 18724 Status: Regular | Show recordbag

surly not slower? it would be the same speed time wise, but
they would need to blend frames cause ntsc has a faster
frame rate to pal? but time remains the same.

ntsc has a smaller frame size too.

offline freqy on 2017-09-25 19:49 [#02532218]
Points: 18724 Status: Regular | Show recordbag

you can get progs that blend and blur frames to make the
conversion harder to detect. The audio remains the same
speed.

I'm not sure perhaps they have a way to blend frames like
you say, I think most production companies don't bother,
they hope people wont bother

like when they air a sitcom like Seinfeld on tv they speed
it up to get more adverts in

i doubt they will speed up red dwarf they will convert it
correctly and keep the audio the same.

There are progs that can do the conversion so well you can
barley notice.

he had electricity for the early part of his life or
something like that
