True IDM Life is only limited by your willingness to suck (laziness). IDM power is in your hands; wielding it for the greater good is a choice.

Man, the day I saw a guy looking through some vinyl(s) drinking a craft beer, I knew not only was it dead, but having its corpse bummed.

As a genre, where can it go? For me IDM was the nineties. Honest work and music, unlike all the clones we have had since.

Back when mhtrtc, tri rep, icbyd were in the same genre it was a genre. If you think campfire headphase and confield were the same genre then so is skilled and nine inch nails.

Human memory has 'survivor bias', hence the rose-tinted "good ol' days" and why I will always cherish the so called IDM genre even though I am sure there was a lot of crap! This was part of the soundtrack to my life as it was yours.
To some extent I am jealous of our children as they will happen across the real gems from this genre and not have to shift through the dross like we did... much like I did with my dad's 70's LPs as a child.
Maybe RIP is in order, but like all funerals, to have grief there must be something to lose in the first place. My heart is full of love for this invented genre and some absolutely fantastic music, but now I enjoy new and old favourites.
Let's have a wake, get drunk, remember the good times and tell all the stories to the kids.
