My standards have degraded over time, I don't give a fuck
(holmes), I'd probly enjoy the cool space effects and
xenomorphs running around on screen, sparks flying and shit.
Whatever is on the big screen should be a treat. Some
massively salted popcorn and a syrupy beverage? Yes, please!
Want to finish yourself off with some Wine Gums? Go on, you
know you want to! Tiny ninja joint in the mall parking lot,
why not? Thanks Mr. Scott. Thanks 20th Century (fucking)
Fox. Munch munch. Thank you liberal economy, thanks free
world. Munch munch.

yes i know what you mean, a rush but ultimately
unsatisfying. When i watch first Alien film its so well made
i see something new every time i watch it, my favorite bits
really arent the alien, my fave bits are when the crew are
having conversations together freaking out wondering what to
do, the acting is so good, its just endlessly watchable. Im
looking forward to this new one but its not personally how i
saw the alien series going.

If that's a link to an early draft for Alien 3 that included
a wooden planet...

offline Hyperflake from Wirral (United Kingdom) on 2017-05-12 12:32 [#02519609]

yeah i mean the wooden planet idea its scientificall
impractical, but it makes a good idea for luddites and monks
why they wouldnt have weapons, religious parallels, the idea
of alien running up stain glassed windows and coming up out
of privies would be really good, monks blaming the sin of
lust of woman etc. etc.. some of it was used for alien 3
which i do actually really like, the extended cut, i like
all the british character actors like charles dance etc..

Amongst all the review headlines on IMDB, generally stating
it was an action film without much depth, this one caught my
eye: "An Isaac Assimov and David Cronenberg Hybrid".

I don't know what to expect anymore.

I liked the slow beginning and just fannying around
I loved the whole section from when they land up until they
meet david with that sparse score getting more intense as
things go to shite
Went a bit shit after that though and when the original
style aliens start to turn up theyre not menacing in the
slightest, they just get wasted. Especially that last one,
zero tension really.

I guess david was supposed to be the more menacing
presence.

Did ridley scott go through a divorce recently with all the
couples having one member killed off?

Was better than prometheus, resurrection and possibly 3.
Incredible production design.

The origin alien had much better character development ,
more attention to details and the idea that the real
villains where the company amd investors who knew about the
alien and had secret agendas for the crew. This added a more
sinister aspect for the story line. Also that the special
effects where stop motion and people dressed up as the alien
gave it a more darker feel to it . Similar to how the shot
'the things' it took much longer to sequence these scenes
and more film crew to pull it off, but it works so much
better and looks more disgusting . Movies today have a few
programmers rendering digital graphics and the movies are
always aimed at action scenes rather than leaving some
aspects of what's gong on in the the viewed mind .

The alien had very little screen time and when you did see
it, it was obscured and it added to the tension.

The new alien films have a host of characters who look very
similar who just seem cannon fodder to be killed off, they
dont really have an function to the story apart from that.
In original alien everyone had a function with in the crew,
a reason to be their, their reactions to the situations they
faced were more realistic.

first Alien had real mystery/terror what was this eldritch
horror, no explanation just weird real alien origins.

The fact in the new ones it has prosaic origins that are
related to human meddling makes it far less interesting, and
actually its not fully alien at all anymore.

Also was much more interesting with the original giger
design of the space jockey was a bio mechanical alien fused
to its chair, rather than being a bald giant in a space
suit.

Seems like the writers are missing the point entirely,
audiences are scared and drawn to the unknown

if the insisted on going to the space jockeys planet it
should have been weirder and even more alien than anything
in the first film,

saw a poster in at the movies
thought ah! is that this new alien movie?
didnt watch a trailer or anything
went to the movie
was a bit annoyed by the disgustingly clean opening scene
with david
told the woman who was yelling and joking around nervously
to be quiet as the movie wasnt loud enough to understand
anything if she kept on babbling
chav with gf seconded and gave support
(this was 7 people in that showing)
slightly disappointed as i found out it was the prometheus
sequel
later on really disappointed by the constantly bad dialogue
thought oh well lets just pretend i didnt know any alien
movies and just let it sink in for a bit
furthermore disappointed by poor decisions of the soon to be
dead
kind of turned on by some visual appeal (mostly spaceship
related)
grabbed more popcorn in some creepy david scenes
enjoyed some action towards the end (no dialogue or plot
relevance)
stayed for the credits
hummed that prometheus theme
left a little excited yet disenchanted

looking back now, if this was a movie about david the
menace, i dont get why the audience always has full
knowledge of his motives. is this a serial killer movie? his
acts were so obviously explained and shown still rather
nonsensical to me. it demystified the alien origins in a bad
way.
everything i hoped to see coming with noomi rapace which i
found great in prometheus was skipped and her character as a
survivor trampled on by this script. the aliens played no
role at all.
while i did enjoy bits of the movie and at some point it
created the right mood, i dont think knowing whats happening
i can see it again as it lacked so much and demystified so
much instead.
ai serial thriller - you are a disappoint
