like EpicMegatrax, that was arguing about Burial's music
because he hated the sampler he used.

clearly vision uncorrect, since its not what you use but how
you put it to use

think vibert uses mostly reason, and he has one of the best
production values you can find, i actually said that to some
stoned hippy guy at one of his gigs

When u listen to music, is it because of the gear or
software used? (asking to anyone in general btw)

for me definitely not, it can help stuff sound good but
doesn't mean it is compositionally good just cos it has good
gear or it

listing the gear gets you more hits on youtube
that's about it

prodigy drums on the older gear, through a desk, analogue
compression was/is so good.

this guy does good gear demos
all his songs are amazing
he uses a different keyboard each time
but his songs,oh man, the melodies and arrangements are top
notch

Generally no. But let’s say for example I have an MC 505
- I am definitely interested in hearing music made on it,
just to see what people are doing with it. So there is that
element but overall it doesn’t matter, if it’s made with
farts as long as makes me feel something.

A person might like the sound of a particular machine, like
the tb-303 for example, more than others.

when everyone was using hardware midi things MIDI not being
accurate, time code was also not accurate, the note and
controller data was out, and all uncontrollably variable.

and although people called it robot music. it was never
completely tight. loops would be slightly vary, if you
listened carefully.

Now so many people are mixing sample accurate VST.

Virtual precision robot music. ultra clean. Its 'no'
natural.

I agree Portnoy, i once binge watched SP404 hip hop beats,
not because I liked the sampler but my interest got sparked
because people used that very machine to make really amazing
things and i wanted to hear more, but it could come out of
an MPC or ableton for all I care, i wouldn't even know the
difference to begin with.

I have heard a lot of stuff with roland gear that is
actually extremely boring or even ugly to a point, same with
modular synths, the older and bigger the synth is the less
interesting sounds seem to come out of it (this is all in my
opinion and as far as I could have heard/found of course).
But still, it attracts so many players in the game that i
suspect it's often really just a quick way to get response.
Not that it matters really as long as people have fun ..

you see these guys on youtube with beards and like rooms
full of massive modular synths and the music they make
sounds a bit cack generally, they could do most of what they
wanted on a much smaller synth really, sometimes they are
just generating two sine waves in different octaves or
something underutilising their gear, even the stuff i have i
really underuterlise it massivley

Fah I think I nkow what u mean about Roland machines
sounding boring. I admit most of what I get out of the
Mc-505 is probably only enjoyable to me because I made it.
It can also make a very subtle beautiful sound - in a warm
paddy way. Bless.

like umbroman said it is a good way to get the
clicks/listens

Portnoy i owned an mc-303 for a short while because i bought
it drunk and couldn't get rid of it but recently i think i
could've well kept it. I have had -loads- of genuine mid
night fun sitting at it on my desk. Funny story the first
time ive seen a genuine tr-808 in real life was when someone
brought it to a jam and i heard it raw over the big speaker
setup and i remember thinking "this.. this is it? The holy
of all drummachines? It sounds whimpy!" but yknow.. expected
a lot and didn't keep in mind slight distortions and
compressions etc.. Made samples of a raw recorded 808 sound
better to my ears than the real deal (and i dont mean the
standard tr-808 drumpack that is out there, a mate went
through the trouble of recording one unprocessed and sent it
to me).

Listens or clicks dont really matter unless you want to
somehow be rubbed off for owning a particular machine or
something.

although you have mentioned them quite frequently this past

yes i must be getting weirdly obsessed with beards, i did
have a sort of beard last week but i shaved it, i think
local people had thought id lost the plot when i went out

now it's worth £3000

so i think it's worth the money

there is that in between part when you have scraggly facial
hair, between proper beard and clean shaven that just makes
anyone who has it look like they need to see a psychologist,
my beard looks like that quite often, so i just keep shaven
mostly

me 2, it has velocity so if you trigger it from an external

fast sweeps and stuff

out of date....they walk slowly somewhere. or just give your
money back but without checking the rest of the stock.
