i'm just reflecting on how hard it is to not have a response to music: response. i don't think i could manage without not listening to it

under the influence ~ definite subway track. didn't they do a music video scenery scrolling by a window in time to a beat? i was picturing things like that naturally. i'm not even sure if it's a video for Surrender. perhaps it goes with Brexit Planet
in particular, i also visualize weebl's "badger" animation arm flap to this track. it fits perfectly.

out of control ~ little distorted resonant sqawks answer the lyrics nimbly in a call-and-response sort of way. a clever stuck stuck stuck sound joke. but maybe i'm just searching for the truth. a nice guitar breakdown with jobbing distorted acid sqawks that sttuttutttutters. lovely. another verse, and then you're introduced to how the distorted sqawks arc arpeggiatedly at 6:16 are most superb.

let forever be is a song about lying in a walmart parking lot and pooping yourself on drugs. not, like, pooping on top of drugs, butt... you know what i mean. it's like that coil song

the sunshine underground is another subway track. there's a point where it flies out of a dark mountain tunnel and over a lake (3:54). i caught the reference to "the underground railroad" and initially i thought it was just a well-lit subway track. then i realized: no, this is about how certain drugs have a puckish habit of trafficing themselves. just showing up at times. at the right times.
obviously there's some sort of network in place to handle this mechanism: the sunshine underground. the lyrics go "all the waiting, all the waiting, texting me, texting me." but, the waiting is already over. it took forever and it's finally here, and the lyrics are just reflecting on that.
four minutes in things are trailing and reversing. i feel like this album is such a product of the era, in many ways. there's reversed audio, everything carefully edited backwards in time, going back for, like, over a minute. no one does that shit now, really. i feel like ed & not ed were sitting there and saying "duuude! we can write the whole album on the computer! ...we aren't stuck on a sampler, we can have one single sample that's a minute long! in reverse! just for one single fucking epic buildup!" it finishes at 6:25 or so

asleep from day ~ nice warm song about waking up with someone. or maybe it's about drugs, what do i know
got glint ~ this song has a racial agenda, i think. or it could be drugs. i've heard peoples' skin will change color on mescaline. green or blue or purple are not out of the question. glint, glint? in the eye? the elastic eye? i can generally recognize two types of glint. one is people tripping, the other is people on lots of coke. is glint another one of these english words i don't know? like, i thought alberto balsam was a person for years

hey boy hey girl ~ a while back i had "surrender" on my workout playlist and i wound up deciding to go out for a drive when "hey boy hey girl" came on. pause it, go out to my car, resume the song in my car. no particular reason, it was just a good moment. then it was on my playlist the next day, and i wound up doing the same thing. there were more times after that, and so it's a bit of a thing: whenever "hey boy hey girl" comes on my brain snaps right to it, and asks: "is it time to leave?" right now, the answer is no

surrender ~ the titular track. not the best track on the album, but "out of control" isn't a good an album title.
the cover is of a bunch of people chilling, one kneeling, arms up in the air. i recall ed 'n' !ed sed something like, "yeah, that's the one person in the picture that gets it." i smiled when i read that, because i'll have moments like that all by myself in a basement

came back inside and the obvious next album was obvious:
let forever be is a song about lying in a walmart parking
lot and pooping yourself on drugs. not, like, pooping on top
of drugs, butt... you know what i mean. it's like that coil song
which would be "things happen" by coil. i surmise this track is a montage of every time someone's come up to them in a club totally ruined on acid. suitably, the album is called "love's secret domain" and i'm ten seconds away from a disco hospital discharge into teenage lightning I. i'll spare the board further reactions

it's between "surrender" and "dig your own hole" as far as you concerned... dig your own hole... do you? can't believe it took me years to notice that for the pun it is

I used to listen to Surrender quite a lot in high school and college. It's a GREAT album. Also on November 20, 1999, I listened to Let Forever Be, and I realized it was about high-consciousness next-level shit, when before that it was just some random track. The power of post-LSD, I suppose.

that song always made me wince. i quite dislike the lyrics. "how does it feel to be a crystal being?" it's the sort of crap a 17yo kid would very seriously write while tripping and then feel mortally embarassed about by the time he was 23
