I feel about as Christmas-y as polio but... Merry Christmas.
I have been gorging on a load of ITV "The Chart Show" Indie
Chart vids from 91 - 93. "Quoth" turns up and I never knew
I'd shed a tear listening to the Drop Nineteens or
Chapterhouse. Still... merry christmas.

Quoth (no video, just the sleeve) this one from April 93 - then this
is a good playlist of a few of them.

It brought back a lot of memories and some ace bands like
Levitation, Belly, Kitchens of Distinction, Pale Saints,
Breeders, Drop Nineteens and some shit ones like Mega City 4
and Northside.

god kitchens of distinction, my brother had one of their
cassettes, and pale saints I used to listen to them

mega city 4 is a good band name

god there were a load of pixies/nirvana knock offs back
then

animal nitrate by suede I like that track

I saw Kitchens of Distinction about 1000 times live (Ok,
maybe about 10). There were a lot of grungey pre-Nevermind
bands, not all of them good (Moose, Buffalo Tom, Midway
Still) and some good (Sugar, Tad, Mudhoney... I used to dig
the shit out of Sub-Pop). I don't know if anyone managed to
knock off the Pixies, or even try. Suede I saw live in
Portsmouth, before the first album came out, and hung out
with the band afterwards (still have my signed ticket) and
it was AMAZING. The only thing that would've made it better
was if I'd had sex with a lady. ANYWAY, this isn't
Christmas, this is me going on about the last time I was
happy, which was 25 or so years ago.

sounds like you had some brilliant times, nothing wrong with
reminiscing, yes I listened to mud honey a lot when I was
younger I liked them a lot, tad I had heard of but only
heard a few of their songs

Well, at the time it was great, we used to go to loads of
gigs, (not just the Kitchens). I saw Pixies a a fair few
times (Blur used to support them, third on the bill), Ultra
Vivid Scene (to this day I can't believe I saw them), Loop,
My Bloody Valentine, Mudhoney (a few times), Nirvana,
Teenage Fanclub, Pavement, Soundgarden ... then I got into
electronic music and it all went downhill. OH WELL.

ive seen pixies twice years ago, was very good, I wouldn't
mind seeing my bloody valentine but I heard their gigs can
be deafening and the others you mentioned I like all the
ones you mentioned

I just felt the earthquake here in the south of Chile - not
great when you have hangover, you're not sure if it's
happening or you're just feeling woolly. Maybe 2016 has it
in for.... me!?!?!??!

Sorry obara I missed this - I saw them in 1990 at the
Marquee in London (which was the old Marquee relocated to
Charing Cross Road and now there are NO Marquee's and it's
just a horrible, huge West End pub)). I remember Chris
Cornell stage dived and I held his boot - and that the gig
was AWESOME.

And thanks to the fucking Internet it appears someone videoed a bit of it
- so a young LOL is in the mosh pit somewhere.

Mudhoney were always my favourite "Seattle" band. I only
really used to like Nirvana for "Negative Creep". My fav
compilation was
Dope-Guns-'N-Fucking In The Streets, so many classics on that - Tar "Antlers",
Cows "Almost a God" ... oh god, too good.

depressed for about a couple of hours on Christmas day, then
realise ive been drinking

Booze is, of course, a depressant. That's why you have to
keep drinking. For years on end, non-stop, if
necessary.
