I've slowly seen it past 6 years, but only recently got
aggressive in dismissing it. but I have always been a
sceptical 'non conformist' since my early teens.. much to my
failure at life to date. but lets not get into that.

not just now, its been going on a good while.

what really woke me up was doing economics at a-levels..
with an alchy teacher.. he did an assembly one day (about
the us elections and its impact on the world) and the next..
the bat shit lesbian teacher literally encouraging everyone
to go to university.

glad in a way I knew when to switch on/off.

at least I have no debt and some LAZY_skills

yes it seems like colleges and universities are now
political indoctrination centres, rather than places of
debate and free expression

universities prepare students for industry
eg: pesticides are healthy, organic is a waste of time, type
of education.

I remember at uni I was shocked at how awful everyone's
music taste was. I had thought that (at least at a
post-graduate level) people would look beyond someone like
Katy Perry for their musical fix. I soon realised that, no
matter how smart a person is, or how deep they may delve
into Academia, shitty musical tastes will prevail. A geat
revelation.

I think you dudes are going a bit nuts on the
generalisations in this thread regarding unis. If anything
(I can only speak for the humanities here) I was taught to
analyse my surroundings with a healthy dose of skepticism. I
imagine though there may very well be some unis out there
with dubious motives*. I always saw them as one of the last
safe havens of critical thought, the home of our beloved
sciences. I admit, I romanticise it a bit.

Freqy, you had me at Unis prepare you for industry. Sure,
they to an extent. But then your own bias just took over
there and gave us some bullcrap (eg: pesticides are healthy,
organic is a waste of time, type
of education) - you're saying this based on what?

That being said, the Universities in my country are
imploding (see: #feesmustfall and its precursor
#rhodesmustfall) <- I was there for Rhodes, I nearly had poo
flung at me (in case you don't know, someone took a lovely
dump on a statue of Cecil John Rhodes)

*my first Uni is actually where Apartheid was engineered
(Verwoerd actually lectured there and birthed his
'Volkekunde'

I digress...

Also doctors are not trained to be nutritionists. they are
trained/prepared for an industry where they prescribe drugs.
drugs create side effects...sometime requiring more
drugs..and so on.keeps the money flowing in a specific
direction. packaged chemical covered premade foods & drugs
..insread of fresh organic fruits and vegetables. As with
conventional farming ,students are trained to believe it is
perfectly safe. not a problem.

haha, dear freqy, you are such a trigger.

Doctors are trained to be doctors. Nutritionists are trained
to be... nutritionists. But err...uhmm...yeah. Carry on.
