Hee hee I remember this. It's a great improvement on the
original. Takes me right back to sitting eternally in the
rain.

good stuff, has a blade runner vibe. listened to some of
your other stuff too - are you still using a nord?

thanks!

i don't really do music nowadays, always want to take it up
again, though. i never used my nord much. the sounddesign on
this was largely grinning ape, which i repurposed into
another track (this is many years ago).
i was actually looking for the first grinning ape album,
which is maybe on my other laptop.

The Greatest Ape was well ahead of its time. It's brilliant.
Is the world ready for it... even now? Put flacs on
Bandcamp, relaunch it with bonus material.

Well that's kind and I am genuinely sorry I have become such
a bitter wanker over the years. I didn't prompt Big to post
about this. If I listen back I get upset because back then
was a very dark period, and I mean it's not even the tipping
point of my nosedive, but about a a 5th of the way through
and I've still not been able to "pull up". I was all
arrogant about it but I did actually try really hard. Only
mp3s remain, I did give Jivver individual tracks for
"Greatest Ape" and "Sea World" and he did his magic on
those. I might put up a "Ape Hits (Let's Go)" on Bandcamp of
some tracks. I wish I hadn't lost all the Staz/EOD fakes,
they might be worth something now. Funny enough a couple of
weeks ago I went with my pal G from Uni/Art School to the
B12 "(Electro Soma) gig", and he did the sleeve for Greatest
Ape and co-ran the label (they did do proper releases not
just mp3s, alright?!???!) and we got talking about it
(again, I didn't start it) and I remembered that, at the
time, I was going on holiday and I had multiple copies of
the work in progress on CD-Rs, and I actually taped one on
the underside of a shelf of a cupboard at home, in case we
got burgled. The whole project was just a reaching out to
Jivver in the hope he'd invite me round his gaff and we
could make music and get drunk.

... well... I can't speak to your psychic archaeology...
(get well!) but these sounds are hitting me differently than
when I first heard them, and I ape-preciate it more now. I'd
be happy to hear more, bandcamp or whatever.

I was going on holiday and I had multiple copies of the
work in progress on CD-Rs, and I actually taped one on the
underside of a shelf of a cupboard at home, in case we got
burgled.

Ouch, I'm that guy. Backup drives sealed in plastic, hidden
under a pile of rags under the kitchen sink when I go away
for any length of time.

not withstanding these good stories, i was actually looking
for this even earlier release and this second track on it
called 'massive' something.. probably released under another
moniker

I remember you liking Golden Jackal's Gold Crest, is
that it? I think you said you played it a party and I was
really happy thinking it had been played out somewhere.

Or was it Concrete Mass - sounds more like "massive". I put
all the old one's on the site (hey, they're all old,
right??!)

oh damn, if you're taking requests, do you have Sunken
Square somewhere tucked away?

I was thinking about that one cause I remember you saying
you liked it back in the day and I wondered if I had
it mislabelled. I've just had to go through 20 or so
unlabelled CD-Rs and, what's worse is that whatever asshat
designed the CD bit on this laptop clearly doesn't want you
to be able to eject the damn things once they're in.....
anyhoo, along with all sorts of depressing things I found of
old projects and banner ad designs for adult websites, I did
eventually find Sunken Square

oh now that's what I'm talkin bout. So dreamy and hypnotic.

Did you have to do weird ass Russian porn banners such as
Wifes Hard Fucked!!!!! and other broken English type things.

"dreamy and hypnotic" - this is the trouble, I never
know when you're taking the piss. Too clever by half. I do
only ever read negative things in.. things though, I've been
schooled about that. Regards Porn Banners, no, it was only
ever anything US-based and legal. It's still grim though.
That may well be my epitaph; "Tawdry, but above
board
"

No, in all honesty, I have a real affinity for that track.
I'm sure I told you this once, but it reminds me of being
high in my teens and seeing the weird b-roll interludes with
music that TV stations used to play when they ran out of
show and also out of ads. That would never happen today,
when everything is measured to the last byte and nanosecond,
and program directors chug from squeeze bottles of adderall.
