i graduated from watmm persona non grata in like 2012

I see being a persona non grata there as a good thing. I
really dislike that 'place', though when big releases come
out I do like to go and read the comments. I really enjoy
seeing people there get really worked up when someone
express dislike for a new Autechre realease or whatever. It
creates so much ridiculous, yet entertaining tension.

Not to say I don't wish for this place to have more users.
It seems people would rather pay to express themselves, and
would rather be moderated than defend themselves.

that's like five years ago.

it's a mixed blessing. in one fell swoop, joyrex plugged the
biggest (frivolous) drain on my time. it's irritating losing
contact with people there with whom i never spoke outside of
PM, and i liked the YLC section. the problems i got booted
for have largely sorted themselves out, strangely enough,
once i got to a board where there was absolute zero
moderation. i wonder if they were ever my problems in the
first place, really! or, well, just a bad reaction to
someone else's bad reaction... derail threads? sure. but i'm
a compulsively organized person, despite my firehose of
typing, and all my wanky threads about aphex twin went in
the aphex twin forum. but, no, i can't post this thread...
why? it crosses some vague line never defined anywhere?
what? ok, well, can you just switch on this thing over here,
and i'll post it all in there to keep things neat for you?
no? i can't post it ever? go home? fuck you, what is this,
cartman's birthday party? banned

Joyrex has managed to, through judegement and/or luck
managed to create a p decent 'community' (yeah, thats another
post) there, which i think has only really happened in the
last 6 years or so... u have to give him that... i mean how
the fuck do you pick mods for a start, nightmare.

derailing shit, its good for ya

turns out there if you get banned and rejoin you get banned

i summed up my banning pretty well, i think. mods had a
problem with some of my threads while others were fine.
irritating. is this ok? depends on fickle mod mood. tried to
ham out a compromise and was talked down to. after a dozen
rounds or so i tore into joyrex one day; banned. i want
freedom of expression; can't get it there. my attitude was:
i am just doing my thing. willing to compromise but can't
change. fair enuff, doubt joyrex could change either

my mouth causes me plenty of problems. i've destroyed
relationships with a single comment. i mean healthy,
mutually respectful relationships, and nothing like being
talked down to by a bunch of idiots with penis envy... so,
yes, when my restraint finally caved, it only took about
half a paragraph to get myself on his shitlist forever. i
was halfway there in the first place.

unlike many times i've run my mouth, i don't particularly
regret this one. it ripped the bandaid off for both of us

switching gears from lulz to constructive, i think it would
be lovely to have something like linkedin for electronic
music. i'm mostly just looking for an answer to the moments
where i'm all "oh, hey, i wonder what happened to
Sneaksta/Ceri JC/chimera slot mom/mrx/The Anti-De-Meta
Guy/etc" and trawling through watmm to see if they're still
around and what they're doing is not really practical. so
how about a web page that has half a screen of info: "here's
my soundcloud," or "i had kids and the kids ate my music
time."

myspace handled this very well -- blogs, photos, social
linking along with music hosting. soundcloud doesn't do it
at all; they're really just a data host.

i'm mulling over doing it myself, if i can define it more
clearly (because if it's not clearly defined, it will spiral
and grow until i never finish it). like: no, no music
hosting, no user blogs, nothing that will take time to code
up or time for anyone using it to fill in... i'll think
about it...
