could just do it like what.cd; invite tokens. but make them
anonymous... tokens go out and a wave hits the board;
settles in. when it gets stale send out a new batch

or maybe something's broken or vulnerable to sql injection
and phobs can't be bothered to fix it. if that's the case
coding up a token circle is no go

i actually love these sort of math problems. combinatorics,
probability. it's the one area of math i'm not shit at
(until it gradients into number theory, and then i'm shit
again). dead accounts get zero tokens; don't feed the spam
stock when you can help it. anyone who's posted in a year
gets a token. maybe an additional one or two for frequency /
freshness / sass. there's a curve you want to hit somewhere
in there, where there's some new people but not a disruptive
flood. like how you don't want to mix the eggs into your
cookie batter too hard

anyways, the upshot of tokens is it dodges the flood effect
and still relegates influx to moments when phobs has a
moment to make sure trolls aren't pooping in xtended space
