glockenspiel TEAC0188143637 -> Thu, 18 Dec 1975 14:07:17
GMT
GPO Beat-187773180 -> Sun, 14 Dec 1975 07:13:00 GMT

these dates seem too early; he had to have been at least ten
when he made GPO Beat. either these aren't unix time epochs
or we're missing an implied offset he adds to all of 'em.

UNIX convention is to store all times as an integer that
represents the number of seconds since 1970, because that's
around when UNIX started needing timestamps (or something).
youtube-dl was applied to his user9000 soundcloud and i just
have a folder of 'em. audacity is turning through chink and
cooltempodemo and i notice that they all have numbers, about
the right number of digits to be a UNIX timestamp. is that
what they are? so i punch one into a calculator, then
another. the dates are too early. perhaps, instead of 1970,
the timestamps are the number of seconds since he started
writing music. or something. i could be totally wrong. just
curious, really.

er, milleseconds, not seconds... since Jan 01, 1970.

a few years back the counter crossed over to 1000000000 and
i got invited to a "birthday party" for the UNIX timestamp
on facebook by some guy i went to school with. didn't go (it
was quite a drive) but kind of wish i had.
