Seems like they don't have the capacity to cope with such enormous downloads, hence the invite-only system. Rather stupid, unless the aim is to get the music out altruistically and the money merely pays for the extra fat internet pipe required for the wavs. P.S. I can't think of a reason why 24bits rather than 16bits for a download. I can understand using 24 bits for sampling, etc as there is no need to even aim for anywhere near FSD and life is easy.... But why distribute as 24-bit? It's just wasting enormous amounts of bandwidth. With 16 bits you get 96dB dynamic range. Let's say you listen with headphones (lowest ambient levels) and set volume so quietest sound is at ambient level. The max level will be 96dB above ambient which will almost certainly be painful! What is the point? The biggest thing is the lack of audience background noise from taking a soundboard. Making it 24bit is just dumb. On a positive note, it is very nice of them to offer this for fans. |

After finally having made my way through these sets I must say they are all real good. The sound is superb, like you would expect from an Autechre album. The sets are more similar than I expected but that sort of makes sense to me now when I think about it. The pricing policy with the multiple purchase discount is right and something Ae deserves cudos for. I have no particular favorite set as of yet. I guess I can play them one by one any time I'd like to revisit this material, but the set from Utrecht - the show I attended - will of course always have a special place in my heart... |

I've only listened to Utrecht. It's alright, lots of it just sounded messy and boring, and the set I saw was pretty much the same. I think I expected it to make more sense heard in a club but it didn't. The parts that were boring in the recording still bored me at the gig. When I've seen them before the sets were more direct than the album, more for clubs than headphones, but there seems to be much less of a contrast this time around |

I'm not surprised Utrecht is called the Netherlands best kept secret. When I asked a friend of mine - who lived in Amsterdam for several years - about it before I went to the festival last year she just shrugged an declared she'd never been there. What a shame... Now, I've just been back for a second festival experience and I'm putting in every effort to be able to go next year as well. Utrecht has a lovely and compact city center, that easily reminds one of Amsterdam. It's one of the oldest cities in Holland, a 1000 years old or so, and in the middle of it is the Dom church with its stunningly beautiful tower. There's a lot less tourists in Utrecht compared to Amsterdam and the people are kind and helpfull, which ~crazone is a perfect example of. The Le Guess Who festival must be hands down one of the best festivals of Europe. The program is overwhelming and there is something for everyone who's not into mainstream music. This year I saw The Myrrors, Deradoorian, Ringo Deathstarr TP Orchestre Polyrythmo De Cotonou, Sunn O))) (I freaked out though and had to leave that gig after 10 minutes), Adrian Sherwood with various artists, Total Control, The Babe Rainbow, Death and Vanilla, Ariel Pink, Dungen, Deerhunter and various djs. It's just as easy to get to Utrecht from Schiphol, as it is to get to Amsterdam - and a whole lot nicer in my humble opinion... In sum: I Love Utrecht! About the live Ae material: I for one think it makes way more sense in a club. |

By the way, even in Amsterdam, dutch people are (generally speaking, there're always exception) way kinder and helpful then, I wouldn't say french people, but at least your average Parisian. Oh I forgot to mention that I consider dutch girl the most beautiful girls in Europe. |
