I'm familiar with glitch, which is used concurrently with IDM references. I assume laptop punk is somewhat related.
I have some Venetian Snares...very aggressive, almost gabba IDM.

I haven't heard Venetian Snares yet ;( Try getting "You're a Hero" by Patric Catani--very cool track you'd probably like!

laptop punk is an oxymoron. punk by its nature is immediate and rough sounding; music made on laptops is always meticulously crafted because the process requires exactness. "laptop punk," another dumb label thought up by bored journalists.

means what you prolly think... music recorded in people's bedrooms (traditionally this meant on a cheap four-track recorder, but now it applies to computers as well). you could switch bedroom up to living room or den if you like.

Sure it is. I can read its deep poetic meanings!!
"Gabba Gabba Hey" means:
"The government! The Government! Such a shame that our society has no morals compared to the reverse psycho cosmos! My coffee My soccer! Where art thou?"
Its SO OBVIOUS!! I LOVE POETRY!!!!

'laptop punk' is the journalists' term applied to some of the more rebellious electronic musicians who use laptops...such as kid606, the blechtums, cex, lesser, v/vm, vsnares...basically anyone you can think of from tigerbeat6 and similar artists
i think like most descriptions/labels surrounding the whole 'idm scene' it was applied and is used sorta tongue in cheek

someone said laptop punk couldnt exist. and although i agree that i hate the term and it is completely unecessary, i do feel that punks and laptops can gotogether. the essence of punk rock is not a guitar. it is not stupid kids making noise. its someone that has something less than mainstream to say. generally they are intelligent.
so what kind of electronic music would a punk kid make? i guess if you really needed a description it would be laptop punk. probably electronic music that says something the punk kid wanted to say.
still.. i do hate that term.
anything we put our hands to become part of us. so if youre punk and you pick up a golf club you just invented punk golfing. if youre a punk and youre christian then there are punk christians. if youre goth and a hair dresser then there are goth hairdressers. you cant say something isnt possible for any reason cause if someones doing it then there it is.

John, it could/does/obviousley exists. The only thing that will stop this futile argument will be a term that isn't so transparent.
I can't be arsed thinking of one, but I'm sure it needs to be something like 'nobroy' or 'boomshakalak'.
