When I first saw and heard footwork I found it rather
silly.
But I've come to appreciate it.

FOOTWORK

Footwork used to be the shit. I loved it until the music
and dance style changed. Footwork used to be amazing, and
it's the only style of electronic music that I felt was
tightly integrated with the dancing; that is, the
music+dancing= one single entity. So a dancer had the power
to change the vibe of the music.

Like THIS. That what still when popular footwork
dance style was highly influenced by post-charleston, with
more glides and crip walk styles, with more illusion moves,
as opposed to the frenetic style that seems to be most
popular now.

IN THIS, two of my favorite young dancers from back
in the day teamed up and kill. Unfortunately after this,
Poppy starting wearing pants that were too loose, which
ruined his moves due to having to pick them up constantly
(seriously), as well as he started to get more influenced by
frenetic style. Combo is one of the most innovative dancers
from back then, who really had deep understanding of funk
and sheer flow vibez, so his sets were usually very good and
quite tuned to the tracks being played.

HERE is my acoustic cover of Rep Yo Clique.

i like it best when i can post something that simultaneously
takes the piss and makes a valid point. it's how xltronic
should be done.

so we have a white guy robot dancing to autechre stacked up
against a black guy dancing to footwork. aside from the fact
that footwork makes me feel like the only white kids at a public enemy concert, i find the
style of dancing to be boring after about thirty seconds,
whereas i could watch david elsewhere all day. furthermore,
the production on a lot of the footwork stuff is decidedly
mediocre -- not all of it, but a lot -- and autechre is one
of the few acts that actually justifies FLAC to my ears. did
you know autechre is touring?

Forgot about Lightbulb. Used to dig him, as well.

HERE are the roots of footwork dancing in modern
form.

Man... For ULHS, 2006 was THE year, because the band was
fucking on it and contenders were all pretty good. I used
to get high and watch that shit and be like, "Whooooo~!",
like it was the 1920's all over again.

Takes me back, mang.....
