Great article Motown. Man, if only people would realise the real story. Even hijab was highly uncommon pre 1960 (see for instance). Now we have Saudi wealth funding most of the islamic thought in arabic, even the translations of scriptures are biased and mass distributed by them. And of course, they mainly focus on all the insane shit like actively chopping arms off and mistreating women. The women issue is extremely disappointing as muslims are supposed to consider a mother as the single most precious being in one's life. That a man will never be able to repay her in his lifetime for the pains she endured. Indeed, most arab never knew what a shiite or sunni was, no one really cared if you were jewish, christian or pagan. Europeans would know very well that war and unrest will transform society beyond recognition. In the case of muslims, they tend to go full apocalyptic as they feel more and more threatened. there are loads of peaceful muslims i get it. that it even needs to be said... says a lot about most of our expectations tbh. lots of people say 'this isnt the real islam'. they say peace is the real islam. muslims have been squabbling over the 'real' islam for ages. shiite sunni whatever. what makes the violent revolutionary islam any less 'real'? its a legit strain of islam isnt it? like any other interpretation. who is the authority on what makes islam 'real'? ayatollah khomeini? muslim brotherhood? or just whoever you decide you like the sound of? islamic violence is happenin all over the world. still just a glitch? muslims cant blame the saudis or america or tony blair anymore. muslims have been the most useless force against this phenomenon. the most useless force for peace. if the real islam is peace then its failed itself or its lying about how much peace really matters. i think its a bit of both guys cmon lets be honest about it |
