basuicallyt it comes down to this is all xtronic
vreverything is all a part of my lfe and basically knew shit
is going down that was basically highly destructive and so
it went like one big dream and everytying was circumstancial
or maybe like some kind of thing where these tunes were off
to the sidelines but they are me theya re a part of my life
and then suddenly out of no where this event happened and it
was like this other dood far side of planet had some shit he
thought might helpe me so he said ok im going to flash
everyone all my emotions all at once and see what happens
(fi thats ' what happens at 45rpm all the emorinos they d o
everything atll at once that's why youcan play at 33) and
basically all these tunes and so isolated and so basically
why deciding to expose one sehlf someone other side planet
using this thanks it means a lot more than you would ever
know thahnks

I may agree with your second sentence, but definitely not
your third! (there's a wide variety of stuff to come)

Have a little hope! ;)

You, my dear friend, are a party pooper, a sourpuss,
defeatist, depreciator, killjoy, and a prophet of doom.

It's nice to hear from you, elusive. I remember talking
helicopters with you around 2004-5.

You will forever be remembered here, warmly, for your minute
descriptions of moments in tracks. Describing 5 milliseconds
of Augmatic Disport, or how a certain part of a track sounds
completely different from your kitchen. So much fervour, and
happiness through music.

I hope you're on the up now!

Hahah, I am not y'old shitebag. I just find it strange when
people have good ears and love tings that I love, and yet
pick up quality in things that don't tally up for me. At
least when it's a piece of work by somebody who's met a high
standard and then appears to have declined. I do hope! I
don't expect though. Sourpuss this you bollocks

I like it and it's good and I dident have that much
expectation because I wasn't that excited over syro. The
aphex mystery is back in this one which I like. So let's
have some glockenspiel and gongs.

russdust - thx it's nothin to to do with me just watched
another very close to me slowly disintegrate and it spun me
on my top. i always watched read ppeople claim how music
gets them thru difficult times and for me it was always
experience building golden years but now me too am at that
point where music is a coping mechanism and wow syro came
out of no where and what a grand thank you for that !! the
timing couldnt be more of helpful at first i asumed maybe
everything was planned as. everything fell into place and
syro defines the start of a new chapter in my life so that
is why i am excited. these tunes define me. it's who i am
as a person and it's nice to see that now. it's nice to
have something as good as syro be what defines you.

It's my favourite thing that he's done in over a decade and
a wonderful counterpoint to syro. A lot of Richards tracks
showcase someone who has complete 100% control over every
minute aspect of the process, something he gives up here
with the live aspect coupled with handing sound generation
over physical objects. Bum notes, dropped sticks, background
intrusion are all part of a surprisingly human final
product, given the circumstances. Then again it's tricky
dicky and all this stuff is probably a carefully crafted
illusion. Hopefully my record arrives today so I can give it
a blast at 45rpm.

I wish some of the shorter bits that come across as sort of
"song sketches" were fleshed out and made longer. Also, the
songs would probably benefit from having some additional
instruments rather than just the prepared piano and whatnot.
Don't get me wrong, I love the sounds he coaxes out of that
piano, but it'd be cool if he could have some other stuff in
the mix. I think I remember reading that Richard can't
really play any actual instruments in real time. But anyway,
it would have been cool if he could have hired someone to
play some guitar bits that he wrote, or pump organ, or any
other acoustic stuff. Better yet, Richard should be given
access to the Z-Machines "band".

mus say everythin up n out so far is fine by me : )

in the coments of the sc alt mix rich talks about havinng
natural flanging from tiny imperfections in the robots
design over multiple takes

gr8 ideas ol richie!!

Or he can hire squarepusher to play the bass.

I'm starting to like it a lot more than I did at first. But
I still wouldn't mind hearing more songs done in this style
but longer or more fleshed out. Hopefully Vol 1. comes out
some time and that's not actually referring to the piano
tracks on Drukqs.

All that computer controlled stuff must be pretty fun and
interesting to work with. I wonder how difficult it is to
work with the electronically controlled drums... If it's
just some kind of motors and whatnot that a drumstick can be
clamped to, controlled via MIDI and you can control the
strength of the hits via velocity or some such. Hopefully
Richard will do another interview where he explains the
process a little more. I usually like reading what he has to
say because he seems enthused and intrigued by music and the
creation process and sort of just sound in general.

" everything fell into place and
syro defines the start of a new chapter in my life"

quite the same here but with CCAI Pt2 EP - on the day of
very good news another good news came: Aphex next release is
coming. I felt like the sun was up again on my street.

and though it sounds all pots and pans and spoons and forks
[computer controlled ? whatever, ok...] - it's way more
vivid and lively and all more interesting than Syro. I love
it for that. it's like Richard taking a breath and letting
his listeners take a breath before he [hopefully] hits us
with some new amazing stuff that's more/purely electronic.

and that piano track....nothing new really but it HITS in a
new way. thanks, Rich.

He might have used these instruments, and others (that
Godfried-Willem Raes made for him) for this EP:

Hit Any Thing robot

That's the only time I go to WATMM, to read about any new
releases by the 'big four'. They work their little socks off
over there, and it's always a fun read. Some get really
upset at the people who dare offer criticism. It's quite
cute.

I mean that if you go to the thread there, the one about the
EP, you can not only see links to what you kindly posted
here, but tons of other stuff. People over there are really
dedicated, and find out all sort of stuff. There's also
related gear threads. I don't have an account there, but I
do like reading the hardcore fans there.

So what I meant is that this is not really the place for
fun/juicy info. Unlike yourself, not that many people make
much of an effort. ;)

I really don't know if I believe that this was intended to
be played at 45 RPM... A lot of us had listened to the
DrukQs tracks at 33 RPM and they're cool to hear and you can
hear all the little details... But in that recent long ass
interview Richard did for that sort of unknown blog (I
forget what exactly it is) the guy asked if any of the
DrukQs tracks were composed in a slower tempo and then sped
up and he denied it, and I think while on the topic he would
have mentioned if any of the tracks on the record were
intended to be played at the 33 RPM. It's not like such a
thing has never been done before. I believe Boyd Rice has
released records like this, though I can't say I'm really a
fan of his.

Anyway, out of curiosity, if I was to timestretch or I
suppose time-compress my CD rip FLACs to the equivalent of
45 RPM what would I set it to? I'm shit at maths but would
like to hear a clean digital version rather than a vinyl rip
with all the clicks and everything. What about the other way
around? Would be interesting to try it with other stuff too.
And there's really not a loss of quality if you
strech/compress both time and pitch simultaneously.

I think Audacity has some super easy options to do
just that in the effects menu.

Looking into it further, the vinyl version says on the
actual label "33 or 45".

Yeah, you can change the speeds of digital imports in
Audacity from 33 to 45, I did it with my copy of this EP.
Still prefer the 33 version tho, but personal preference I
guess.
