Of all the things that get me about drivers, I find the most telling measure of mindlessness and anxiety to be the people who are at a stop light and slowly inch forward or pump the brakes. The light just turned red, and they just stopped, and seconds later they are inching forward as though the light is going to turn green, when it's at least 45 seconds from doing so. These people aren't impatient, they just have enough presence of mind to not run that red, but not enough presence of mind to have full control over their actions. |
