Ok, so I use Reason... I just love this synth! It's
Mooglicious. Finding a DAW was a pain in the butt, but I
think I made the right choice with Reason. I know it's soooo
2001 and everything and that hardware is the new purple, but
I have a family and my me-space is shrinking even as we
speak... that's my semi-drunken weekend rant for you right
there...thank you very much.

when did you start having to buy the individual rack bits in
reason? :(

You don't have to...the included tools and instruments are
still great, with great value, but you can't use vst plugins
with Reason. That's where these "rack extensions" come in.
You might say that they are a bit pricey but you can try
them all for free for a month and you always know that you
get top quality, 100% integrated "gear" and you NEVER EVER
have to worry about the stability of your system.

new kit is fun, softwares have gotten stupid good at
emulating analog in the past couple years

if you're a longtime reason fan/usr i can understand being
happy to have something sort of like VSTs in there, but i
feel it ruins things a bit. reason was nice because you
never had the "this track needs plugin X" bits. it made it
very easy to swap files; to dig into stuff others posted to
learn new tricks. on that level, it's a shame they popped
the bubble.

No, I'm running Windows 7...and Reason 7.1. Surface is
fine...wish I had a second screen somtimes but...wait, I do
have a spare screen... I'll hook it up :-) I hate what I've
seen of win 8 and I will never use that if it can be
avoided...
