the idea of trying to contain information to a particular group of people is really interesting. DRM, encryption, etc. slice under the same loaf.
NDCs depend on your perspective. i feel they can be a necessary evil; can prevent microsoft from walking away with your shit. it really depends on the terms. they're always good from the perspective of a lawyer.
encryption is like fighting gravity. about how long you want it secret; how much CPU time it'll take to crack. never permanent, always time-limited.
DRM is like fighting physics itself. the MPAA whines about "the analog hole," e.g. pointing a camera at a TV and recording the broadcast. video has to be deDRM'd at some point, or it is of no value to the consumer.
"the analog hole" would make a good name for a synth-themed bar. or some other things.....
