i think consciousness is capable of seeing just about anywhere into the subconscious, just not all at once. then add some walls due to fear, anxiety, or simply force of habit on top of that. i can close my eyes and visualize memories in great detail, and it's the same spot in my head i use when i'm trying to design a machine or some software. it's like how a radio tunes into one station at a time, even though all the stations are there at once. sometimes the subconscious will try to elbow you about something -- dreams are an obvious source. it can outright bust down the door into consciousness, though, if the situation is serious: "This guy wants a fistfight" something in you says. a certain amount of that aids survival; too much drives the conscious mind crazy. meditation quiets the consciousness mind and you get things bubbling up that you'd otherwise miss.... i remember DJing FM radio in college that if you pushed the levels too high, it would cut into the stations above and below on the dial. perhaps that's a good analogy for the subconscious firing off a hardware interrupt... |
