When I was at Art School, me and one of my house-mates were
big Suede fans (it was the 90s), and on the day "Dog
Man Star" (good album, though I couldn't bring myself to
listen to it, or indeed them these days) came out, we both
and went and bought it; I got the CD and he got it on
Cassette (it was the 90s). I lived in the room above
him so we synchronised playing it to do the first
listen
, and of course as time went on, the CD outpaced
the tape.

What do I mean by all this? I dunno!?!?!?!?!?

using a tape and cd format. not a great chance really.
seemed like fun tho.

Each of our computers will run at a different frequency too
, but be much nearer to one another and consistent. Again,
it's just a bit of fun.

Maybe a hearing on the day of release? But i am not sure
what time it is released?

street... into a bus.

in theory, all the computers will not get the sampling rate
exactly right 100% of the time, and may perhaps even have a
permanent skew. i'm sure there are lots of people on XLT who
have a rock solid RME somethingorother with little clock
drift, but nothing's perfect. as such, i doubt we can truly
"sync." i suppose it actually garners the question: is true
sync possible? this in turn forces us to ask ourselves if
time is discrete or continuous

in any case, i sold my RME, monitors might soon be after, so
i'm out. pay attention to freqy when he says pay no
attention to the spax.

oh megaspax we cannot get perfect sync free-running even if
we had the same model RME batch ,each crystal clock vibrates
a various rates. And to be anal , even when physically
connected with word clock and is claimed 'sample accurate'
there is still minute relative phase drift between
individual devices.

The point of XLT cinema is just to have some fun, we may be
off by even a second or so by the end of an album, but the
point is we enjoyed it together as best we could without
getting too technical.

I'm going for jog.

sorry megatrax. i hope you do not have to sell your
monitors.

me too. it's a head-scratcher deciding where to draw the
line. once i sold a few things it became, like, "well, why
not this bit of kit also?" but it's not my aim to flog it
all off. the financial pressure is acute but temporary; very
hard to draw the line somewhere and feel anywhere near sane
about it.

the technical tangent was fantastic. i remember ninjam; does
that still work? synced lag, essentially... and if everyone
uses external synchronization, i.e. GPS signal, you could
probably achieve science-grade sync at least. god-grade sync
requires drugs.

don't sell your monitors man.live off baked beans or
something until you get paid. I saw your studio once in
that " grave times" vid i think, looked nice. i tried to
find that video since but cannot see it anywhere.

with ninjam it is not in actual sample accurate sync due to
latency. it actually adds delay to make the latency even
more so that the dealy for the musicians is relative in some
way to the tempo.. something weird like that.

i like the idea to stream a cinema event. but i do not have
the rights to stream syro.

it's down to the man upstairs mang

yes, i didn't mention ninjam for its accuracy, or even its
relevance -- it's for live jamming, not sync -- i mentioned
it because i always thought it was a nonlinear and clever
answer to internet latency vs. jamming

Why not hire an open top bus and driver with an ice system,
and cruise around London all wearing aphex masks?

I went to Winchester School of Art, which may not be one of
those fancy London places, but it is where Brian Fucking
Eno went!
(I wasn't there at the same time (that was
the 60s
))

Nice, yo. I was accepted to Camberwell in 2001 and was
gonna transfer, but then eventually I decided to not go. I
instead stayed in Florida to work on music and paint.
Ironically, had I actually gone to London my music life
might actually exist. Lesson learnt for another time that I
cannot even come close to predicting, I suppose.
