Anyone else keep a garden? No, I'm not 80.

I've been growing lavender, salvia and hyssop indoors over
winter and am going to plant them all together in a
pretty-smelling bed for bees yo. When the garden centers put
their stock out in a couple of weeks I will get some spireas
and make a hedge at the front of my plot.

I'll be growing hops, lavender, thyme, coriander, fleabane,
swiss chard, kale, spinach, a few variety of beans, squash,
beets....quite quaint. I didn't buy any chickens this year
but I'm going to take one of my sheds and get it ready for
chickens. Maybe get some quaint bees next year too.

Did you read that article revealing Monsanto is responsable
for the near eradication of a species of bee? Fucking sad
and a bit scary.

No, not surprising. The monarch butterfly decline is likely
their doing also. Something to do with eradicating milkweed.
The monarch's need milkweed to survive.

i'm doing fine, there's no pot/weed here. and i don't want
to find it.
i used to smoke all the day.. from wakey wakey to sleep. all
day stoned.
my taste for alcohol is increasing, nothing to be worried,
but i'm noticing a drift to alcohol. i'm going to have a
Jeremiah Weed today.

i dont have a garden for myself but i put some strawberries
under the apple tree, where the janitors lawnmower is
unlikely to hit it. probably gonna be harvested by the kids
in the houses around, hope theyre gonna have something to
pick :)

plus i got myself a new stock of herbs for the windowsills;
basil, rosemary, majoram, salvia and finally i found me some
thai basil, YUM! love having them in the flat as they spread
a nice aroma all around :)

i also bought some random flower and veggie seeds to spread
around town .-)

and that's turned into something very sci-fi looking.

Less Monsanto more just generally the chronic overuse of
pesticides by all of agribusiness (including Monsanto)

I actually have some milkweed seeds - monarch butterflies
love that shit - I am going to plant some, plus some general
wildflower shit so I can listen to IDMz while watching bees
and butterflies buzz about their business

Have you grown hops before? I tried growing grapevines last
year (similar plants I guess?) but all of the fuckers died
on me. Not sure I can be bothered this year. It might have
just been the shite clay soils we have here though.

offline chachmaster3000 on 2014-04-21 15:10 [#02470416]
Points: 667 Status: Lurker

Hops thrive in clay'ish soil. There's all kinds growing up
here from early settlers and I've met a few people doing
them already.

I'm more worried about how I'm going to let them grow out. I
haven't devised a trellis system yet.

Hmm fair enough, I might try some instead of grapes then...

Cheapest method of trellissing I think is to use bamboo, you
can get poles dirt cheap and they're easy to lash together
with twine to build larger structures

I actually planted my salvia and lavender first thing this
morning, now I check the weather and there's fucking frosts
at the end of this week. Fuck Thor or whoever the weather
god is

That's freaking early man. You'll get frost until mid june
for sure. Last year the last frost was almost at the very
end of june.

I'm not too optimistic of the lavender taking off, it's zone
5 and we are 2-3. I do know of someone who has some lavender
growing in her garden. I might tale clippings off them if I
find out they survived the winter outdoors. I forget if she
has left them out for the last three years or not.

offline chachmaster3000 on 2014-04-21 16:14 [#02470423]
Points: 667 Status: Lurker

Well it's not like those plants can't take the frost, but
they need hardening up in order to take the frost.

I'm actually in SW Ontario, Zone 6, not in the Abitibi (I
just spend a lot of time there. If I did live there I'd just
grow blueberries and Labrador tea)

Probably was still a bit early though, the old wives tales
all say don't plant anything until May 2-4 round here for
fear of frost. That's mainly for vegetables though

I guess if you're zone 2 or 3 you're in AB? Or you in
northern ontario?

Northern. Nipigon

I have Labrador Tea at my place, and blueberries,
Saskatoons, and raspberries. Everything I'll be growing
grows fine here except for the lavender.

oh yeah, I knew someone on here was from there. Not worked
in NW Ont for a while now, i miss it!

I love that landscape and I've always wanted to mimic it in
a patch in my garden. I guess I could make a mini muskeg
underneath my downspout and put some Lab tea in it. For
realistic muskeg effect I could bury some toy bulldozers in
it

Also, good luck with your growings this year!

from England, he is working our garden at the company shop
this year and tending to a few of our high end clients (+),
I've been meaning to mention the board to him, though I'm

Right after graduating I landed a pretty decent job in
mining that required a hell of a lot of travel. So I parked
all my shit in my moms basement for about a year while I was
working in exploration camps in the James Bay lowlands on
contract wages. In a year I saved enough to get a house and
pay off half the mortgage at age 24 (I also ordered some IDM
CDs lol). So living in your moms basement for a bit can pay
off

I do actually start seeds in the basement of this house
though lol. And I wintered my strawberries there this winter

Gardening is amazing and ancient IDM power. Connecting with
plants and Earth, gardening allows for reaffirmation of Gaia
consciousness connection.

I really feel everyone should exercise, and garden.
Obviously, farming would be both of those.

Most of my gardening experience is ganj, but I've also had
to take care of quite a large garden when living in Joshua
Tree.

ME OLD IDM POWER GARDEN

Long live plants.

Reaffirming connections with Gaia is more of an ambient

Got a dirt cheap wisteria in a garden centre clearout
yesterday, I'm hoping to have it climb up the front of my

should come back just fine in the spring. Just hope it isn't

I guess just pump the soil with some juicy shit - compost
etc - ready for next year. Grind up fall leaves too, and mix
that shit in

I have been taking wild rose cuttings from all across
northern ON and QC this year, and rooting them in Timmies
cups. I have one more load coming home with me now,
hopefully they will have time enough to root before winter
kicks in, so I can get them in the ground. I am gradually
building up a wild rose hedge to keep the neighbours' shitty
