my first acid (disco dancer)

i discovered this amazing and hilarious classic bollywood
film called Disco Dancer (1985) whose music is made using
old drum machines.

I sampled the first track and added some beats, melodies and
acid line (my first one, using audiorealism software).

here the result.

i hope youll like it, i had some fun doing it!

and if anyone wants to help me to do a whole 'disco dancer
remixed album' you can find the entire film on youtube ;)
(i also did a reggae-feel interpretation slowing down
same sample)

here film main theme.

i think i made a shorter version of the tune, cutting the
central interlude and trying to enhance bass and stuff, but
youtube sound quality sucks, and the only album-version i
found on the net was not as good as the film version... just
let me know if anyone interested!

acids start after a couple of minutes,
i just made a long intro (and outro)
cause i thought it would be nice for djing purposes...

7 plays / 2 downloads, thank you for listening and taking me
home :)

To be completely honest, I'm not that interested in remixes,
but I am interested in old (and weird) electronica, so I'll
have to give this a listen. Thanks for pointing me there.

According to wikipedium it's a 1982 film, and one of the
songs on the soundtrack is influenced by Video Killed The
Radio Star. That sounds magnificent.

Looks like the album is on Spotify, too.

hi melack

song is v nice at times, sounds like a live jam, you could
shorten them tracks fitting the tune changing maneuvers

hahaha yeah i remember that part, me thinking 'wtf that
totally sounds like video killed the radio star'. The film
is totally worth a watch, amazing what they do with a little
budget, that kind of lo-fi naif cinema that brings a smile
in your face.

hi mohamed!

i agree with you that it would have been better to do a
shorter version, but the acid line was tweeked live and i
like how it fits in some parts and i did it like a couple of
months ago and never found the time to arrange and properly
finish it, so i left it like this...

"i did it like a couple of months ago"

Did you do this a couple of months ago? Whenever you did
it, it's racist in my book.

The film seems to be a big bollywood classic, known all
arround Asia.

It was a guy from Bangladesh who showed it to me, in a deep
emotion, telling me it was his favourite film ever and that
he had seen it hundreds of times.

Later one day i was singing the disco dancer song and a guy
from Nepal was really impressed i knew it. He also told me
the same history, about the film being very famous, and he
being a big fan of the main actor.

I assume it is like some Hollywood films (like Grease for
example) that everybody know arround America and Europe

These are pretty good. Old school funky shit goes really
well with shuffle beatz, so perhaps more shuffle could add
more funk (i.e. less rave, more house).

The *untsi~ untsi~ untsi~ untsi~* is pretty ravey, but not
enough other rave elements to hold it together in that sense
(except for at the end of the first track, it starts to hold
together). It's so ravey that just high pitched vocals
would make it happy hardcore.

Perhaps some influence from the big beat greats could add
funk points. Well, I'm basically just referring to Norman
Cook, though.

It isnt bad at all, but like most IDM lacking effects and
stuff, sounding too clinical. But what do I know...
