Share your thoughts, speak loudly and I may present to the
hardcore fans some presents... Some unreleased material that
truly no one else has that took me YEARS to get my hands
on....

I am honored to be here.

seriously hidden? I almost have everything he ever released

euhm, I want to hear his voice more, see him more, Can
someone please help me out with that? yes i have a mancrush.

I've heard that RDJ is actually producing a CD of Gregorian
Chants.

when joyrex's prized TAPE_TRAX finally leaked, i
realized: i'm not sure i actually want this. it sounded like
a 9th generation copy; horrid quality. the tracks that did
make it to the RDJ album made it for a reason. it was fun to
hear some less graceful moments + garner a bit of insight
into the thought process, but it's only a mild afx aside in
the end. if old stuff is to come out, i'd much rather
something organized, curated, de-hissed, otherwise
de-crusted etc by the man himself. not another MFM popcorn
fart.

what i really want is a proper release -- something like
drukqs, just to be specific -- but i'm pessimistic about
that ever happening. i feel like he hates his fans. fans
can't accept that thought, though, so the agony drags on
forever. when he tells steve beckett he has an album, tells
a magazine he has six albums, then puts out nothing at all,
the fans say, "oh that wacky RDJ, he is such a joker" but i
suspect he's more laughing at the fans than with them.

it's been a nice ride, some good tunes. but, until i see
something real from the man, i view him as retired. shitty
live gig video recordings and DATs found under the carpet
just cheapens it. it's time to decouple your tounge from
RDJs anus unless you enjoy being disappointed

i like to hold on cos it allows me to continually/repeatedly
play out my abandonment/masochism script.

seriously though, why would he do live shows at all if he
hated his fans? yeah sure he's a troll, but surely he loves
us, doesn't he? doesn't he?

Anybody else reckon he's one of the few artists to have the
taste and recognition to realise when his material isn't up
to scratch anymore, and so decided to stop releasing it? The
last stuff was still great, and that's exactly the way it
should be. I'd personally much rather that than some
long-awaited, emotionless and transient shite like BoC
pushed out last year, or Autechre's continuous and dogged
flaying of their originally creative streak

You're a real hateful bitch. Also more of a mindless fanboy
than I'd have thought for all your airs and graces. I take
it you like all the recent Autechre releases then? Maybe
it's because you too are receding into your tamer,
non-creative years and want to cling onto the idea you can
still be interesting. Or maybe they're just great tunes!

Yeah that's true qrter, but most of it was a process of
building up chops to eventually produce the better shiz to
my ears. I'd much rather no further mediocrity than hearing
some ok Aphex for familiarity's sake, to each his own I
s'pose though

the gigs don't meant shit. they are few and far between, and
he never travels very far, not exactly a huge gesture.

i suspect he won't get out of bed for less than six figures,
or alternately because he thinks it'd be fun (like the video
hangjas linked above). it doesn't strike me as charity of
any sort.

he was always pretty direct in saying he made music for
himself; imagine he still does. trying to argue he cares is
just your own ego trying to rationally justify itself
(that's what the album title is about, yes? i'm afraid i'm
not british enough to really grok the wording). i suspect
releasing music became too much of a hassle and he stopped
bothering. just a few gigs here and there to get out of the
house + make some money.

Not that I really wanted to get into a serious discussion
about it, but yeah, in all likelihood he just can't be
arsed. I just couldn't see that he has full-on hate for his
fans lol. At worst he probably feels some irritation/total
indifference/uncaring. Although not for us obviously! We're
his special groupies who he hasn't yet learned how to
express his love in a sufficiently fitting manner.

It's like how our belief in xlt v2 keeps xlt alive, except
with aphex we're believing in a new release with nothing but
silence and no sign of hope. oh wait no, that's exactly like
xlt.

how can i write about it like this if i haven't come to
terms with it? i was in the same boat for a while, though. i
really would like a proper album, like i said, and so i
convinced myself that perhaps, this time, it really wasn't
bullshit. repeatedly. and then it was. repeatedly.

that piano pendulum shite was what finally nudged me over
into reality, i think. yes, it's a clever idea, but it's
little more than that. or maybe it was good, but it was a
one-off, thousands of miles away from me, and i've not heard
a single recording that sold me on it. any of the piano
tracks off drukqs is preferable, to be honest. i would have
been perfectly happy to just smile and appreciate it if not
for him dangling the carrot for years and years! but
instead, i felt like, "so this is the six albums, huh? fuck
this washed-up old stoner"

few months later i calmed down, i really do love most of his
old albums, but i feel like continuing to call myself a
"fan" will just result in sadness

"i don't think it's outright hate, either."

it was a joke, you silly!

also i'm not in any boat lol. i expected the OTT and
ludicrous nature of my comments were obviously ironic, but
it just goes to show what kind of desperate behaviour has
come to be accepted as normal around here!

i seriously doubt he'll release anything, but it would be
nice. there are enough exceptional artists around to keep me
more than happy!

also, just cos he makes music for himself doesn't mean
anything considering that's exactly what autechre say

He is a somewhat bitter man who really doesn't give a fuck,
has tons of fans, millionaire, genre/scene changing and
defining output, loves music for music's sake-- what the
fuck could releasing anything give him that he already
doesn't have? The answer, is simply nothing. Releasing new
material under the Aphex Twin moniker would provide him with
absolutely nothing.

I find the volleys of shite on here pretty fun. Like how you
always pop up at choice moments to jeer and shake a chubby
middle-finger at certain users you don't like. And fanboy is
more of an internetism than Americanism, beyond that, those
are all fairly commonplace words in the world which you
might not hear outside of gameshow jargon you vivacious
fellow.

I think it's a pretty important thing though that we were
originally talking about, even beyond RDJ, though he's a
compelling case. Artistic integrity seems nearly impossible
to maintain alongside popularity for most people due to
pretty understandable pressures.

Drivvel, would you honestly rather another RDJ album that
was just ok than no release at all? Or do you fully believe
anything he releases is going to have quality stamped all
over it?

i personally rather people just continually release stuff
even if it's shit.

i have the same opinion of tv shows. even when a series gets
reallllly shit in the later stages of its life, you still
get the occasional good episode that reminds you of how good

like squarepusher went through a bit of a shit phase for me,

You could be right, and i think Richie is either a bit scared
or he really believes releasing stuff is bad. (because
everyone will copy him or whatever other hilarious reason)

I don't want a shit album for the sake of it, of course not.
But i think no one should release music then. With that
attitude.
I may add it's not like we're talking about some iternet
label artist that just copies what he likes. I do think afx
has stuff to offer. The cunt brags about it!

As for Ae, i think they treat their fans pretty well. I'll
admit to not being ecstatic whe Quaristice came out but my
goodness do i love Oversteps and Exai. Maybe i don't have
great taste. I surely don't brag about it being impeccable.
I've loved autechre since the garbage EP and i'm lucky in
the sense that i'm very rarely disappointed. (i ended up
enjoying Quaristice!)

I'm not a hardcore electronic music fan. My first love was
hip hop and i enjoy stuff from all boxes. A good song/track
is a good song/track, not matter the genre.

Maybe you could also have a dig at me for not being
overwhelmed by BoC's latest effort.

while i seriously doubt that, it has crossed my mind that
aphex twin was actually a collective (goon, cylob, etc) and
RDJ was just the face of it. again, though, parsimony -- i
doubt it's some complicated facade, i think the guys just
lived with each other and traded lots of ideas.

I donno, the only evidence of new music from RDJ in the past
5 years has been those 2 live tunes, the Manchester and Metz
ones, which are basically more Tussy stuff. I definitely
wouldn't mind a little EP like that but wouldn't be
overjoyed either.

As for Autechre, it just sounds to me like the spark is gone
and they're simply keeping up the trade, with some
incredible skill and abstraction, but without any of the
magical moments of their earlier stuff. Subjective shit
indeed, but I can't hear any heart or natural emotion in
many tunes after and including Untilted so I stay away from
it. I recall gradually getting into Untilted last year and
then looking forward to getting heavily baked and sitting
with it. Eventually got around to it and the tracks just
lost their appeal altogether. The patterns of all the stuff
I thought was buried in there just kinda came loose as
weakly conjured and overthought ideas. Some people still
enjoy it though and that's nice for them and for Ae too.

I thought the last Boards album was bland and transient
after a few listens, and haven't gone back to it since it
came out really. That fuckin Jaquard Causeway tune sounds
like Chris Martin trying his hand at IDM.

p.s. you're still a cunt, a shitman, an egg-gargler, a
cable-pincher, a void warren
