Why bother with the weak illusory stuff at all? The Tuss stuff was released without much of a pretentious treasure trail, just as an unconfirmed alias. Making out to be the cousin of the alleged artist seems like a waste of time altogether |

Else i would've released records. I had fun with my last name pop up so many years ago and decided to confuse the fanboys for a bit of a laugh. Right now i'm only sharing some old tunes because i usually make them for fun and like sharing them. Take it or leave it. |

Drexciya hiding their identities, Future Sound Of London hiding in their studio... pretty popular 80s-00s. The Tuss is a nice puzzler. Was it a legal shell game to dodge contention over the Aphex Twin name? Was it an imaginary band/artist, like Squarepusher with his LSD souvenir bands? Was it a collaborative effort, and hence under another name? Was it about having a laugh over the reaction? Or was it a send-up of the Detroit attitude? All that speculation is kind of fun. I think that's part of why Drexciya wore masks; you starve people for info and they'll go nuts digging for more. On the internet, though, that all goes to shit. Information spreads at a much quicker rate -- instead of someone going, "Hey, have you heard of those Drexciya dudes? No one knows who they are" you get 261 bullshit rumors to sift through, and all of them are crap, the people writing it are crap. You conclude the whole band is crap, close the web browser, and do something else. Fake Tuss was funny at first, got irritating fast. Part of it is all, "oh, not this bullshit again," and the other part is, "how creative can this person be if they're resorting to this?" and the acid is OK, sounds kind of old though. |
