'Project X' - Description

offline Phobiazero from the next Xltronic (Sweden) on 2002-04-15 14:37 [#00175407]

'Project X' is the work-under-progress title of the new
site coming soon. The site will replace all our previous
sites (autechre.nu, aphextwin.nu and plaid.cjb.net), but
will also cover a lot of other artists, like: bola, jega,
boc, the black dog, passarani, squarepusher, brothomstates,
alder&elius, ovuca, bogdan
, etc etc...

It will hopefully turn out to be THE community for
electronic music. There are lots of reasons/benefits for
doing this lot, here are some:

- one single url
- cheaper for me
- easier to update the site with news
- be able to implement solutions for one single site
- personally im interested in VARIOUS artists and i want to
cover them all

ALL contents from our previous sites will be merged into the
'Project X'... sorry for the lame project title....but
whatever... :-)

Ask your Project X related questions here so we could use
this thread as a resource for newcomers as well. I will
delete off-topic messages found in this topic.

underestimated and almost invisible on the web...

in the end we'll have a complete discography covering 25-30
artists.

Will there be one big MB, or seperate ones for each artist
and a general community one?

I don't think you should be affraid of charging a nominal/
fair subscription/fee. This is a fun site, it's a bit
unfair that you should take the whole financial burden. I
don't know how many members there are but if the cost was
shared I'm sure it would be a very minimal.

Will project X have differents mb for every artist or only
one for all together? It could be a mess if 100ppl speak
about AFX other 100 about Autechre other 100 about
Squarepusher in the same mb.

Will you create a complete discography for every artist?
They seem to be a lot of musicians and so it would mean lot
of work for you.

btw: Don't forget µziq

jivver: Since only 35% were willing to pay for the site
(according to a previous poll), maybe we'll have to
implement two different types of member accounts:

- Premium members (lots of priviligies)
- Standard members (basic account)

I think this is the best solution. We're not talking about
much money here. Only a few dollars per year.

For comparison: Got my bill for the new site last week
(webspace+domain) -> $370 USD. (aphextwin.nu and autechre.nu
NOT included). So, now you know...

I think the posts here can be divided into 4 categories:

Aphex Twin related.
Other Artist related.
Music related (e.g. composition analysis, member's tracks).
Other.

You could have a MB for each artist and then a more general
"other" one.

Well, I dont have a credit card and to think that I couldnt
use this site because of THAT makes me very frustrated...
You should rather make and sell Phobiazero T-shirts or some
other merchandize... Or design a Britteny Speers site and
let the tons of money from that site fund project-x : )

woofer: yes, it'll be a complete discography, but not a
static one. the useraccounts will be heavily integrated into
the discography which will make it a pretty interactive
discography in some ways. cant tell ya more right now. sorry
for rambling nonsense. :-D

i wont forget µ-ziq :-)

I think it could be nice to have at least one mb for
autechre and one for Aphex, 'cos a lot of fun from
aphextwin.nu and autechre.nu could be nostalgics. :)

What's about banners and commercials on your site? Will you
think to some sponsor or not?

i'll try to avoid it. but it depends on the income from the

But personally, i would prefer some banners instead of
having to pay money over the net for real =O

this needs some serious thougt.

But it sounds like its gonna work! =)
